Does World War Z require PS+ Xbox Live Gold? World War Z guide, tips
Last update: 08 May 2019
Those planning to play World War Z on consoles may wonder whether they will be able to do so without having a subscription to Playstation Plus (PS4) or Xbox Live Gold (XONE). Subscriptions are necessary to play online modes in the majority of other titles. This, however, works slightly different in the case of World War Z:
- You can play solo without owning a subscription. You will be able to play through the entire storyline (all episodes) with AI controlled bots in the offline mode.
- The access to online mode of the campaign will be locked - you will not be able to connect to it unless you activate a subscription or connect to an account that has it active.
- The PvP modes of the game will also be locked.
- The matchmaking system will not work - you will not be able to find players to play with.
It is generally possible to play World War Z without paying for a subscription. We, however, highly recommend getting a subscription - even though you will be able to complete the main storyline with bots, they will not be able to assist you on higher difficulty levels (especially Very Hard and Insane), effectively slowing down your progress. What is more, you will not have access to the matchmaking system and several PvP modes.
