Follow Aiko
The first thing you need to do at the start of the new chapter is to go left. By the ruined bridge, you'll find the scroll marked in the screenshot, which will unlock a new skill. It allows you to quickly fire shurikens towards enemies who dare attack the main character from behind.
In the same location, you can also push the beam to gain access to the Bo-Shurikens.
Head back to the starting point, but don't go to the right yet. This time, examine the obscured passage next to the huge tree marked in screenshot no. 1.
In the location marked in screenshot no. 2, there is a scroll with another new skill. Additionally, right next to the water, you'll find some arrows for your bow.
Once again, return to the stage's starting point and finally head to the right, towards Aiko's ghost visible in the distance. You will reach the contaminated village and, at its entrance, you can talk to the old woman.
Next to the cage, you'll find the Onyudo, i.e. the artifact marked in the screenshot above, and then the Bo-Shurikens on the right side. Choose the main path to the village by finding the first shrine.

In the central part of the village, examine the inside of the building to the left of the big bonfire. You'll find some ammunition there, but more important is the artifact marked in screenshot no. 1 - the Nopper-Bo.
Go outside and take the path to the right of the bonfire. In the new area, you can talk to the Tainted in the cage, find ammunition and collect the Health Upgrade pictured in screenshot no. 2.
Go back to the previous location and this time choose the upper path. Here, you'll face the Blighted for the first time. What's critical about these fights is that chaining your katana strikes won't prevent the monsters from responding with their own attacks, as was the case with living opponents. Your best choice is to make 1-2 swings with your katana, then either parry or block the monster's attack. Alternatively, you can use ranged attacks, as these creatures are extremely vulnerable to them.
Defeating the first creature will unlock a new skill that functions as an upgrade to the skill that lets you perform a chain of attacks against enemies behind the main character.
Follow the linear path. You will only encounter more monsters after reaching the area with the waterfall. Defeat them, then climb to the higher platforms and save the game at the shrine.
Take the top path and pick up ammo on the way. Try to walk across the fallen tree where Aiko's ghost will appear. The tree will break and you will immediately be forced to fight monsters. Remember about the skills that let you quickly retaliate against enemies behind the main character. It's also a good idea to use the bow or shurikens before the monsters get too close to Hiroki.
After the battle, check the area to the left of where you fought the beasts. In the location marked in the screenshot, you'll find a scroll containing a new skill. Additionally, you'll be able to replenish your ammunition here.
First samurai battle
By heading to the right, you'll encounter the first hostile samurai and after a short conversation, a fight will begin. These fights aren't extremely difficult, although the samurai are a bit more challenging when compared to the previously encountered bandits.
To start with, it's best to attack the samurai from a distance, since he's unable to return the favour. Use your bow and shurikens to weaken him as much as possible before he manages to run up to you. From this point on, focus on parrying his blows correctly to get the chance to counterattack. The enemy should die pretty quickly.
Continue to the right and eliminate a few more monsters along the way. Keep an eye on the background locations from which they appear to avoid being jumped from behind. After the battles, climb onto the ledge above and reach the shrine.
Go to the left of the shrine. In the place marked in screenshot no. 1, you'll find the Otoroshi artifact. Continue going to the left. In the area from screenshot no. 2, you'll find arrows and a Stamina Upgrade.
Go back to the shrine and this time turn right. On a large fallen tree, monsters will encroach upon you and launch an attack from both sides. To make this encounter easier, use ranged attacks and attacks that shift your positioning.
Jump down, hop over the fallen tree and grab the arrows. On the footbridge pictured in the screenshot, you'll encounter a Blighted monster. Don't waste your arrows and instead get ready to block a 3-attack melee combo. In the meantime, look for an opportunity to launch your own attack. Luckily, this elite monster isn't especially durable. Defeating the first Blighted monster will unlock a new skill - a longer version of the combo that stuns enemies.
Defeat a few regular monsters and reach the big area with a shrine. Here, take the left path marked in the screenshot, which will lead you to the two dam mechanisms. Interacting with them will sabotage the blockades and the water will dispose of the creatures at the bottom.
Use the lower path, which is now safe thanks to the subversion. Reach the entrance to the building located to the right of the sabotaged mechanisms.
On the ground floor of the building, you will find the artifact from screenshot no. 1 - Hitotsume-Kozo. There is a ladder next to the artifact, which you can use to explore the attic. Dispose of the monster and reach the location pictured in screenshot no. 1 with the Stamina Upgrade. You can now return downstairs and use the back exit of the building.
Heading right through the swamps, where you will again be attacked by monsters from both sides. There will be 2 Blighted enemies among them. Remember to avoid their melee combos and wait for the right opportunity to retaliate with your katana.
From this point on, you have to watch out for cocoons with sharp limbs sticking out. They'll attempt to hit Hiroki. Try to pass by them quickly and dodge when necessary. The linear path will lead you to the next shrine.
Near the shrine, you'll find some shurikens and arrows. You'll reach a suspension bridge with another samurai on it. Just like in the previous fight, you should first attack him from a distance to make it easier to finish him off in melee.
In the following section of the swamps, be ready to fight more monsters, but you'll only need to rehash the moves you've already learnt.
After leaving the water, you will reach the fork pictured in screenshot no. 1 - first take the lower path that will lead you to the shrine.
Eventually, you'll reach the location from screenshot no. 2. Here you can knock down the tree and unlock access to the rocks on the right, on which you will find shurikens, as well as collectibles such as the Yurei artifact and the Stamina Upgrade marked in the screenshot.
Return to the previous fork and this time, take the top path. You will slide down a bit, then end up near some ruined buildings.
Climb to the higher platforms to reach another location where a monster fight awaits you. Once more, keep an eye out for the cocoons and avoid getting hit. Interestingly, some of the cocoons can be destroyed with your katana (such as in the screenshot). In the following location, you may choose to talk to the peasant. Make sure to use the shrine, as well.
After stepping on the long bridge, another samurai will stand in your way. Make use of all available tricks, including ranged attacks and parrying in melee whenever you get the opportunity. You should also consider using a finisher to end the battle faster.
After leaving the bridge, take the left path first. In the place marked in the screenshot, you'll find the Uwan artifact. Be careful though, because next to the collectible there are more cocoons that will attempt to attack you and you can easily take damage.
Go back to the previous area and head towards the entrance to the building. Once again, keep an eye on the nearby cocoons and either run by them quickly or keep a safe distance.
Jump down to the lower level, then head left first. You'll find the ladder pictured in screenshot no. 1. In the lower area with the pier, you'll find Bo-Shurikens and the Health Upgrade pictured in screenshot no. 2.
Go back upstairs and head right while keeping an eye out for cocoons. In the upper section of the village, first check the left passage from screenshot no. 1, which is even more obscured.
You will reach a side area with a cage with Bo-Shurikens and the Nuppeppo artifact marked in screenshot no. 2. Now you can return to the main location and follow the main path to the right. More monsters will attack you on the bridge. After the battle, go to the location with the shrine.
Go right from the shrine, reaching the footbridges over the water. Examine the bottom part of the screen here and you will find the Stamina Upgrade pictured in the screenshot. After taking the collectible, climb onto the higher ledge in the upper part of the screen.
Defeating the ozutsu-wielding marksman and obtaining a new weapon
You will reach the location from screenshot no. 1, where you'll have your first encounter with a Marksman using firearms to take heavy shots. Use the same strategy as against the archers from earlier game sections - quickly use your own ranged attacks, or begin sprinting, then dodge to avoid getting hit. Once you get close to the marksman, start attacking them with your katana.
You will get the ozutsu firearm. Here's the most important information about it:
- The ozutsu is the most powerful ranged weapon which can be used not only against individual enemies, but groups of opponents as well, because the projectiles you fire can pierce through them.
- Unfortunately, the weapon reloads extremely slowly. For this reason, it's ineffective in fights against mobile and quick opponents or enemies that are positioned too close to Hiroki. At every opportunity, try to distance yourself from your opponents as much as possible before you start preparing to fire at them.
- Initially, you can carry a maximum of 2 shells, but as you progress through the game, you will find secrets that increase your ammo carrying capacity.
After defeating the marksman, head left and save your progress at the shrine.
The fight against Morimitsu and the samurai
Use the raft next to the shrine. On the water, you won't have to worry about battles. In this location, you'll encounter Morimitsu and the other samurai. You will have to defeat them.
When fighting the samurai, in addition to standard blocks and parries (combined with counterattacks), look for opportunities to use the ozutsu. It's best to launch the projectile while several enemies are grouped up in front of Hiroki (such as in the screenshot). There is a high chance that they will all die from a single ozutsu shot. This will make the entire battle easier.
After defeating the samurai, go right and you will arrive at a new shrine. Jump down to the footbridge and get ready for another monster encounter. Keep moving right. In the location from screenshot no. 1, take the arrows, then explore the obscured left passage that we've marked.
Keep going all the way to the left. Next to the large cage, you'll find the Bo-Shuriken Upgrade and the Stamina Upgrade.
Go back to the previous area and this time go right. More fights await you on the bridge, and you'll have the chance to attack the marksman in advance. You can choose to attack him with your bow before he has the chance to use his firearm.
Again, avoid cocoons by sprinting past them or keeping a safe distance. You will reach another location with Bo-Shurikens and a shrine.
Use the ladder next to the shrine. After reaching the upper balconies, you'll find the Inugami artifact to the right, which we've marked on screenshot no. 1.
Enter the upper building, where you'll find a Quiver Upgrade in the room pictured in screenshot no. 2.
Now you have to choose a path - either break down the door on the first floor and continue traveling along the upper path, or go back down and choose the passage located next to the shrine. The difference is that the top path will eventually start crumbling underneath the main character, though you won't be damaged as a result.
Both options involve intense monster combat and you should prioritize taking down the marksmen first - try to use your own ranged weapons, or at least be ready to dodge as they're preparing a shot.
Enter the new building and take part in more fights while traveling across the footbridges. In the next location, check the left ramp to find some ozutsu ammo.
Continue on the main path and you will eventually reach another raft. You can use it to access a new location with a shrine.
Head towards the larger structure visible in the distance and be ready to play aggressively because, among other enemies, you'll encounter another marksman along the path. This might be a good time to use the ozutsu at least once.
Inside the building, you'll find arrows and a ladder. In the area with the shrine, use the second ladder to reach the top of the tower. There you can find the Bo-Shuriken Upgrade marked in the picture and, optionally, start a fire.
Escape from the tower
Go back to the shrine on the middle level and take the path from the tower. There is a difficult section ahead of you, which involves escaping from the falling parts of the platform.
The key to staying alive is to aggressively attack the monsters to avoid wasting too much time fighting each of them. Try to launch special attacks while running instead of waiting for an opportunity to block enemy attacks. Shurikens and the bow will help you here, but don't use the ozutsu, as it's a slow weapon and you might find it difficult to escape in time.
After successfully escaping, you can start exploring the new area. Listen to the conversation with the Tainted and then climb onto the ledge on the right marked in screenshot no. 1.
You will discover a side secret area containing the Ushi-Oni artifact from screenshot no. 2. Go back to the central area and reach the shrine at the top of the screen.
Choose the new passage next to the shrine and collect the ozutsu ammunition on your way. On the next bridge, you'll encounter a marksman who will initially be oblivious to your arrival. You can attack him from a distance or run up to him and attack him in melee before he can fire the first shot. It's best to shoot from the ozutsu to counter the upcoming monsters.
Go further and reach the place where you have to push the pole (from the screenshot above) to unlock the passage. Then complete the next 2 sliding sections.
At the bottom, you will find arrows and the artifact marked in the screenshot - Yamawaro.
Step onto the new bridge. As you travel to the right, you'll need to defeat more monsters. Among the enemies on the pier will be a marksman - attack him quickly from a distance or rush towards him, ready to dodge at any moment. Follow Aiko's ghost as it appears. Eventually, you will reach the shrine.
The boss and the first choice
Soon after you leave the shrine, a cut-scene will start. From it, you'll learn about an elite monster that needs to be defeated.
The boss has 2 melee weapons. The boss uses some "regular" attacks, but he also has some unique moves up his sleeve, such as long swings (example in screenshot no. 1) and long jumps (example in screenshot no. 2). In both situations, try to quickly move away from your opponent and dodge when necessary. Blocking might not be sufficient to prevent his stronger attacks, which could also end up stunning Hiroki.
One of the boss's additional attacks is bombing the area (like in the attached screenshot). The projectile impact points are indicated slightly ahead of time. This will allow you to avoid the spots they are targeting.
You can use all your weapons to attack the boss. All your ranged attacks will work, but when using the ozutsu, be mindful of when you're about to reload your weapon.
When fighting in melee, make sure to block and wait for a good opportunity to land a few swings that will be guaranteed to hit the target.
After winning the boss fight, a conversation with Aiko's ghost will start. During this encounter, for the first time, you will have to choose a path (make a meaningful choice) concerning the main character's future plans. This decision won't radically affect the course of the adventure, but it will have an impact on the game's ending.
Regardless of the option you choose, you will then proceed to Yomi, the realm of darkness Thus, you will begin chapter 5.
