Chapter Two - Jack The Pillars of the Earth Guide
Last update: 14 August 2017
In this chapter you will find full walkthrough of Chapter Two – Jack (Chute Forest; the cave):
Hunt something to eat and smoke the meat
Playing as Jack, walk leftwards around the big tree that grows right beside the river. You will notice in the snow the trail of cloven hooves left by a roe deer. When you hear the sound of broken twigs, go right and shoot the deer with your slingshot (this time it is not enough to click the mouse when the circle crosses the celadon fields - you have to make it in time indicated by the white bar surrounding the cursor). When the deer hears you and enters the river shoot it again. Then take care of the dead deer lying on the bank.
In the cave, you will acquire the book. In order to smoke the venison, put some firewood from the bottom of the screen to the hearth. Then leave the cave (bottom right part of the screen) and take some wet twigs lying next to the entrance. Put them on the grate in order for the smoke to ascend.
From the stone castle the boy has built before (to the right of the hearth) take the Charles the Great-made by Mother. Investigate the tools and weapons lying around, in particular Ellen's bow (new item in the ‘Documents’ tab).
Look around and follow monk's trail
Go outside and walk rightwards, following the sound. Upon getting deeper into the woods, turn left.
After talking to mother, when both Ellen and Francis wander off, take the bloodstained fabric lying on the mound to the left and check the mound itself. Upon the shocking discovery return to the forest (rightwards). After talking to Tom and Alfred, indicate on the map displayed on the screen the direction in which Francis has gone by clicking consecutive circles. Interestingly enough, in relations with Alfred you can assume either friendly or hostile approach (two mutually exclusive achievements). After following the trails of the monk, you will face a dilemma - go along the river (in this case remain silent if you want to alienate Albert or appreciate his perceptivity if you want him to like Jack) or cross it (here similarly - ignore his fall or help him to stand up) - chose one option and continue your journey.
When Tom decides to rest and wanders off, double click at any place for Jack to stand up and make the surroundings interactive. If you want to tease Alfred, shoot the snow-covered twig over his head with your slingshot. Otherwise interact with him or Martha.
After a while the boy will notice something on the frozen river - check what it is.
After getting back to the cave, if you want to show resentment towards Alfred pour some soup first for his sister or yourself, and skip Alfred by choosing other options. If you want to befriend him, feed him first, then Martha, and finally yourself. Next, decide on whether to set off with Tom's family or not.
