Chapter Ten - The Rise of Kingsbridge (Kingsbridge - 5 years later) The Pillars of the Earth Guide

Last update: 20 December 2017

Walkthrough for Pillars of Earth, chapter ten:

Go see Aliena

You play as Jack. Philip and Tom are talking to each other. In the meantime, you should keep doing your job - carving a sculpture. You have to play a simple mini-game (white circle that goes through sea-green fields). After completing two of these sequences you can make a choice: keep working or look at Aliena. Choosing the first option makes the mini-game appear again - this will happen every time when you decide to work. However, choosing the second option makes Jack stop carving.

When Jack is alone with Jonathan you can try to finish the job (or postpone it until later) - Chapter Ten - The Rise of Kingsbridge (Kingsbridge - 5 years later) - Book Two: Sowing the Wind - The Pillars of the Earth Game Guide

When Jack is alone with Jonathan you can try to finish the job (or postpone it until later). Remember that Tom insisted on that. Sadly, Jack isn't happy with his results and (after two mini-games) he decides to stop working. If you want, you can talk to the boy and click on all dialog options. Notice a hornet's nest in the arcade on the right.

Leave the cathedral by going through the exit that leads to the market (in the bottom of the screen). There, Martha will speak to Jack. When a small commotion occurs on the market you have to pay attention to one of the merchants - she says "monks step on my chickens" (this will be useful later). Speak with Martha about all available topics and ask her about, e.g. Aliena. You learn that she probably went home. Say goodbye and Martha will remember that she has a message from Ellen (it was added to "Documents" tab and in the "Maps" tab you can find Map of Kingsbridge Priory 1141).

After that you can use your slingshot on her (after zooming out) - Martha suggests that Jack should use it to deal with every hornets nest that he will come across - Chapter Ten - The Rise of Kingsbridge (Kingsbridge - 5 years later) - Book Two: Sowing the Wind - The Pillars of the Earth Game Guide

After that you can use your slingshot on her (after zooming out) - Martha suggests that Jack should use it to deal with every hornet's nest that he will come across.

Get on the path that leads to the city near the priory (in the bottom of the screen). Tom, who stands with Philip, asks Jack if he finished his corbel. You can tell the truth or lie. After that you should head to the town.

Go to Alienas house (upper left part of the screen) and knock on the door - Chapter Ten - The Rise of Kingsbridge (Kingsbridge - 5 years later) - Book Two: Sowing the Wind - The Pillars of the Earth Game Guide

Go to Aliena's house (upper left part of the screen) and knock on the door. Sadly, she isn't there. In that case you have to head to the mill (in the bottom right part of the screen). Jack can finally meet with his beloved. During this conversation (to initiate it both of them have to look up) you can choose dialog options for Jack and Aliena. At some point, Jack mentions a book ("Amores" by Ovid). The heroes will decide to look for it later. Later you will hear sounds of a commotion that come from the priory. After that the couple will move to the cathedral automatically.

Find out about book for Allie

When Jack is left alone you can fulfill Martha's wish and destroy the hornet's nest in the middle of the arcade located on the right. Shoot it with your slingshot (a traditional mini-game). Leave the cathedral by going through the exit in the bottom of the screen. Jack has an argument with Tom. After that you will be moved outside the priory's walls. Go back there (by going right).

Go to the cloister (the first door to the right of the cathedral) and then head to the cemetery (go through the passage on the right) - Chapter Ten - The Rise of Kingsbridge (Kingsbridge - 5 years later) - Book Two: Sowing the Wind - The Pillars of the Earth Game Guide

Go to the cloister (the first door to the right of the cathedral) and then head to the cemetery (go through the passage on the right).

There, you can notice Cuthberts grave and brother Arnaldus who sleeps next to it - speak with him (Cuthberts last days were added to Documents tab) - Chapter Ten - The Rise of Kingsbridge (Kingsbridge - 5 years later) - Book Two: Sowing the Wind - The Pillars of the Earth Game Guide

There, you can notice Cuthbert's grave and brother Arnaldus who sleeps next to it - speak with him (Cuthbert's last days were added to "Documents" tab). You can see another nest (on the wall, bottom right part of the screen). Use your slingshot again.

Head to the prior's house (the door to the right of the cathedral) which also serves as scriptorium. Sadly, Remigius is there which means that Jack won't be able to do anything. In that case you should take a closer look at the arguing workers. Talk to them and try to convince them to stop arguing by giving them examples of various people ("Think about other people..." option) - keep doing that until you can choose sub-prior as your example. Mentioning him (in a rather unfortunate context) is enough to lure out Remigius outside. Enter the scriptorium.

Speak with the young monk on the right (this adds Philip's book "The Justice of the Church" to "Documents" tab). When you are done talking with him you can speak with the monk again (or use a clue about Ovid's work) - Jack learns that a copy of "Amores" is in Winchester. Leave the scriptorium, go through the cathedral (the arrow to the left of the entrance to prior's house) then follow the path to the town (it leads to the bottom of the screen) and, of course, to Aliena's house.

The girl has a visitor so Jack will inform her briefly about his findings. Aliena has good news for Philip. Go back to the cathedral and speak to him.

Tom waits for Jack in the cathedral - but you don't have to go there right away (this completes the chapter and you still have a few things to do here).

Get revenge on Alfred

It is time to teach Alfred a lesson for what he told about Aliena. You need a few items. One of them is in the mill.

But before you go there, you can first head to the fullers (the left part of the map, slightly above Alienas house) - Chapter Ten - The Rise of Kingsbridge (Kingsbridge - 5 years later) - Book Two: Sowing the Wind - The Pillars of the Earth Game Guide

But before you go there, you can first head to the fullers (the left part of the map, slightly above Aliena's house). Speak with them - you learn that the women have problems with their hands.

Then, you can follow the path to reach the bridge (the bottom of the screen) and head to toll hut (on the left). Use the clue about fullers' hands on brother Paul - the old man says that Ellen's knowledge would be useful here. You can go to Jack's quarry (to the left of tool hut). This is the place where Ellen was supposed to meet with her son. However, the woman isn't here.

After that you have to go to the mill (on the right) - Chapter Ten - The Rise of Kingsbridge (Kingsbridge - 5 years later) - Book Two: Sowing the Wind - The Pillars of the Earth Game Guide

After that you have to go to the mill (on the right). There, you can find the last hornet's nest (below the overhead protection on the left) - use your slingshot to destroy it (finish the mini-game). Go inside and inspect the mill's mechanism (the wheel) on the left a few times. Use the clue about fullers' hands on it - Jack comes up with an idea for a fulling mill.

Look at Johnathan and check out what he is playing with - Chapter Ten - The Rise of Kingsbridge (Kingsbridge - 5 years later) - Book Two: Sowing the Wind - The Pillars of the Earth Game Guide

Look at Johnathan and check out what he is playing with. Pick up a few ants from the ground. Leave the mill and go back to the priory. Go to the cloister where Alfred is talking with two novices.

First, shoot him with your slingshot - Chapter Ten - The Rise of Kingsbridge (Kingsbridge - 5 years later) - Book Two: Sowing the Wind - The Pillars of the Earth Game Guide

First, shoot him with your slingshot. This isn't enough to make him retract his statement. Convince Jonathan to give Alfred another lesson (Alfred's remark about Jack's father was added to "Documents" tab). Lastly, you can throw the ants that you collected in the mill at Alfred.

Return to work

Time to go back to Tom. Return to the cathedral - before you go inside, you can visit the kitchen (door on the right of the entrance on the cloister) and speak with Milius and listen to Andrew's grumbling. Use the clue about fullers' hands on the first man and you will hear the same thing that you have heard from brother Paul - you should visit Ellen.

Enter the cathedral - here, Jack will be scolded by Tom. After the accident you can confirm that you saw a monk in black in the market. Remember the merchant's words about stepping on chickens - repeat them now (if you chose the wrong answer, you won't learn about an important part of the game).

Outside the cathedral, you can notice a monk in black who goes towards the town (the bottom of the screen). Go after him. Run towards the bridge (towards the bottom of the screen) and turn to Jack's quarry (go left).

Miss the mysterious monk and he will run away. - Chapter Ten - The Rise of Kingsbridge (Kingsbridge - 5 years later) - Book Two: Sowing the Wind - The Pillars of the Earth Game Guide
Miss the mysterious monk and he will run away.

Jack takes out his slingshot and you have to play another mini-game - press LBM when the white circle is on the sea-green field. Thanks to that you will be able to catch him. If you miss, the monk will run away. This also means that the heroes won't learn about an important information.

In the next scene you automatically receive Letter from Francis (or A letter from Gloucester - this depends on Philip's decision in the first book).

Philip and Aliena head to Shiring. While you are on the map, you can head straight to your destination or you can stop twice: to speak with a group of desperate villagers and with an old woman who steals from people who were hanged. During these encounters you can choose one of the two mutually excluding dialog options.
