Army (main missions) | Walkthrough State of Decay Guide

While exploring you'll encounter different military activity, you need to check it. As it turns out, the army is not treating survivors too well, so remember to control what are they doing.

Army Sighting

When Lily will tell you on the radio that the army was noted in the area go to the place marked with a green circle (south-west of the church) and talk to the military. It will not be the most pleasant conversation and ends that you have to leave the area as soon as possible, in exchange for Sergeant Tanwill pretend he didn't saw you.

Upon completion of this mission judge Lawton will start broadcasting invitation to their community opening new mission chain in Marshall town southwest of Spencer's Mill: Courthouse.

Army activity

Woman named Karen will broadcast info of another army activity. Your task will be to go to the destination, where you will meet again with Sergeant Tan, this time he will quite sharply expels two survivors, warning them that he may use all possible means.

Fortunately, there is no bloodshed and the sergeant lets the couple go free, and suggest you that if you want to be helpful you should look for them in the surrounding houses marked with blue markers on your map.

When you find the survivors (Karen Tolbert and Brett Rodgers) take them to church, shortly after Sergeant Tan will contact you to start a new mission.

Eyes in the sky

Sergeant Tan asks you to help find the zombie hordes, climb cell tower near church to do so.

After targeting two hordes of zombies army will bomb them and you'll finish the mission.

Insubordination

In this task, Sergeant Tan turns to you for help in saving a house full of survivors, because his captain refuses to help.

Three soldiers will help you in this mission, you will meet them near the house. Be prepared for a massive zombie attack, perhaps even the Big Bastard. With soldiers helping you this is pretty easy fight, do not run at the first fire, try to backup your companions instead. 

After the mission, the radio option becomes available to call air support.

Sergeant Erik Tan

When Lily tells you about problems sergeant Tan have with crossing the bridge, go to eastern bridge, north of Marshall and west of Spencer's Mill.

On the spot, it appears that the sergeant has problems with crossing gates, trying to get in touch with the army on the other side, but (as your character correctly observes), it seems that there is no one there.

Tan will ask you for protection, while he will place explosives under the gate Once you reach the other side of the river use advantage of soldiers following you and search the surrounding houses. It's best to start with surveying the area from tower near helicopter.

If you're ready to go to Tan, who after finding that the army left the area entirely, decides to contact the command center. After the mission, the western bridge also becomes available.

Lone Soldier

This short and simple mission is to respond to the call of the sergeant and go to the military base where the accompanying dying soldier says something about the water supply.

Tan will ask you for a moment alone with the soldier, and when you go out, sergeant will shoot him so he won't turn into a zombie. After that, you'll have to go with a sergeant in the direction of water resources in the area.

On site you will see a terrifying sight of dead bodies in the water, this discovery will strengthen the desire to escape out of this cursed place.

Escape strategy

Heralding the end of the game mission will be to answer the radio call of sergeant Tan, he has a very important matter.

When you reach the north-western edge of the military base you will see a big wall, and beneath it the sergeant telling you that this is the only sensible way out. The problem is that making holes in it will be loud and will attract hordes of zombies. Lily has an idea to blow up wall and Tan agrees with her recommending the survivors to gather some resources and prepare to flee.

Armory

Tan will call you on the radio asking for help in obtaining explosives from a military base, Lily, however, immediately will warn you that the storage is packed with zombies. Before setting out on this mission make sure to equip yourself in large quantities of drugs and coffee to regenerate stamina, a large number of ammo, at least one backup melee weapon, and preferably several grenades (as well as firecrackers to distract an opponents). 

Once there, you will join a group of soldiers, but even with them you will have hard task of getting to the warehouse following path full corners where zombies in the company of "Screamer", Feral Zombie, or Big Un hide, so beware. Try to eliminate Screamers and Bloaters first, turn attention of groups of enemies with firecrackers and regenerate your health as soon as your health drops to 2/3 or even 3/4 bar.

When you reach the destination, sergeant Tan will collect C4 and the mission will end.

Wall

The mission starts in the company of Lily and two other survivors, all trying to protect Tan when he plants a charge under the wall.

While you will be exposed to numerous attacks of zombies, this task is much easier than the Armory.

After planting C4 Tan will order the withdrawal. Unfortunately, something went wrong and there won't be a "big bang". The only way out of this situation is to manually detonate C4 charge. Lily will volunteer due to serious disease and rather short lifespan. Ultimately a hero is sergeant Tan, who being aware that he had caught a "black fever" and will soon turn into a zombie decides to dedicate his life for the others.

After blowing up the wall two survivors accompanying you, will immediately go through the wall, Lily leaves an object on the ground, ensuring that others when they see it, will know that you two were here. If you go over a broken dam game is over.
