General Tips | State of Decay 2 State of Decay 2 guide, walkthrough
Last update: 23 May 2018
Below you can find a few general tips that you should read before playing State of Decay 2.
- Don't die - the first and most important tip for any survival game. It may seem obvious but this is the main goal of the game. Remember that in State of Decay 2 every member of your community can die permanently. You can't resurrect them. Because of that you should engage in fights carefully. Also, don't enter buildings that are full of zombies when you are alone. Death of a character also means that you will lose all their items (although you can spend some time and go to a character's corpse to collect loot).
- At the beginning, you shouldn't move too far from your base. There are multiple buildings, shops and gas stations nearby where you can find supplies, weapons and ammo.
- Think which items can be useful during your next mission. This allows you to avoid situations where you, e.g. run out of ammo or medicaments.
- Always try to aim at heads when you are using a pistol or a rifle. This can take you more time but you will save precious ammo.
- Be sure that your vehicle's fuel tank has enough fuel before you start driving it. You don't want to stop in the middle of nowhere and walk back to your base on foot.
- Besides the base, you will also need smaller outposts where you can store items or change equipment. Having a lot of them can save you time that would be spend on going back to the base.
- Remember that zombies can enter buildings not only through doors, but also by jumping through windows. Some of the enemies are too big which means that they won't be able to enter inside - you can shoot them from inside of a building but remember that you can waste a lot of ammo.
- Pay attention to the Stamina bar of your currently controlled character. Each action costs a little bit of Stamina points. When it goes down to zero, you will have to rest for a moment before, e.g. you sprint again.
- Amount of used Stamina depends on weight carried by a character. Lighter backpack means that a character will use less Stamina.
- Skill books can be found in libraries or offices. It is important to have your community specialized in as many fields as possible - this will allow you to get access to more helpful options in your base.
- Weapons have a certain level of durability. They break down when that number goes to zero. Build a workshop to avoid these situations - you will be able to repair broken weapons.
- You can use a flashlight while you are sneaking - zombies don't react to light as long as you are behind their backs.
- Your community needs to take care of themselves when you are away - be sure that they are well-equipped to defeat incoming zombies.
- Other members of your community can also go on trips and search for supplies when you are away - the game informs you about this through radio.
- From time to time you can receive information that one of survivors is nearby and that they can offer you valuable items. These offers are time-limited and they usually last, e.g. for only about 30 minutes. You should always go to them and see what they have to offer - sometimes, they can give you a valuable item that you won't be able to find anywhere else.
- In multiplayer, everyone has different containers to search - the game marks places for each player.
