Create community and build bases
Creating a thriving community is the key to success. You can do this by adopting abandoned buildings for your own use, exploring, collecting phantoms, and travelling between three large areas. While you can only lead one Hero at a time, it is worth remembering that you can switch between the other survivors at any one time. Therefore, if one of your Heroes is injured or fatigued, you can return him to the base to cure the injuries or simply take a rest and take control of another Hero who will continue the task.
Pros and cons of Heroes
Each Hero has strengths and weaknesses and has specific skills. Therefore, always try to select the right person for the task. For example, if you know that your Hero will face more enemies, you can't send someone who doesn't know melee fighting at all or can't wield any firearms.
Explore the surroundings, gather resources and upgrade your base
The more time you spend exploring the area, the more raw materials you will collect so that you can successively expand your base. When you take over a building for the first time, you have to take into account that it will take a long time before you manage to expand and fortify it well enough. So, it is worth to start as early as possible.
Trading
If you meet other surviving enclaves and settlements, you will be able to exchange raw materials with them so that you can quickly collect the necessary resources. All items found in the game can be sold for the Influence Points, which are the main currency in the game. With Influence Points you can buy, for example, much-needed food or ammunition. Remember, however, not to intimidate or irritate any of the enclaves you encounter, because instead of gaining an ally you can gain a deadly enemy and quickly end the life of one or more of your Heroes.
Sound will bring you doom
Remember that every activity you do in the game makes specific sounds that can alert nearby Zombie. As you explore the areas, try to be as silent as possible and focus on eliminating enemies one by one from behind. Before you start searching chests, boxes, barrels and other types of containers, make sure you do not alert nearby opponents in any way. The same principle applies to base expansion cause you will increase the "Threat Level" indicator, so try to keep it at an appropriate level. This way you won't endanger the life and health of your community.
Explore during the day
Try to plan your expeditions or missions in such a way that they are carried out during the day. At night you will not have enough visibility, especially on foot, which might make the game much more difficult and may cause you a lot of trouble. Driving a car in the dark is not the easiest thing to do either, so you can easily damage it.
Always kill Screamer at first
To avoid surrounding by Zombies, always try to eliminate the Screamer right off the bat. If he sees your Hero or one of your companions, he will scream and alert all of the Zombies in the area immediately, which can cause you a lot of problems.
Beware of Plague Zombie!
When fighting Zombies, you should be particularly careful about the Plague Zombie, which carries the Blood Plague. A character infected by this disease will require special treatment with the right medication - otherwise he or she will join the hordes of your enemies. Observe the infection rate very carefully, which appears on the left side just above the radar. You can craft the medication in Infirmary using 5 Blood Plague Samples obtained from the bodies of the fallen Plague Zombies or after the removal of the Blood Plague Hearth.
Destroy Blood Plague Hearth
Blood Plague Hearth is a red pulsating organic heart directly related to the Plague Zombie. Heart destruction will completely clear the area from such enemies. Unfortunately, in order to do this you will need to exercise quite well because it is not enough to use an ordinary weapon or a few shots from a gun. The best way to finish the Blood Plague Hearth is to use several explosives and use a distance weapon to avoid inhalation of toxic fumes. It should also be noted that Blood Plague Hearth is able to call reinforcements, so after beginning such a mission you have to take into account a big mess. That's why it's worth to take a support in the form of few other survivors.
Get a vehicle
Getting a working vehicle is an incredibly important issue in the State of Decay 2 if you want to be able to move between the three areas available in the game. Not only does the car make travelling much easier, it also provides protection and can transport additional resources. What's more, as you drive a car, you can use the door to dissipate and eliminate enemies who attack your vehicle. Also, remember that not all opponents can be easily run over with a car, so try to avoid a head-on collision with the biggest Zombies like Juggernauts. During the use of the car, you must take into account that it will lose its durability and receive damage, e.g. caused by attacking Zombie. You also don't have unlimited fuel reserves, which has to be refilled before every trip.
Use support
Always take support with you. When you're on a mission, you don't know what to expect, and additional white weapons or rifles can help you explore and get rid of larger Zombies. To ask one of the survivors for support, just talk to him/her while you are in the base. It is worth noting here that when you start your exploration of the story of another survivor, the one who accompanied you so far will return to the base.
Radio and other players
During the game, you can use the radio to communicate with other players, for example to call for support. You can also respond to requests from other Players and move on to their game. Remember that by joining another Player's gameplay you will be connected with his/her world, his/her mission and community, but you will control the Hero from your own campaign. Also, remember that if your character dies in another Player's world, your Hero will also die in your own plot line. It is also worth noting that while playing in the game of another Player you can not go too far from the host - doing so will teleport your character to his/her current position.
