Discovering locations | State of Decay 2 State of Decay 2 guide, walkthrough
Last update: 23 May 2018
Climb a vantage point and scan which buildings are in your vicinity and what you can find - do this every time before you start exploring in State of Decay 2. Thanks to this knowledge you will be able to plan a few raids to gather resources. Below you can find all important information that will help you prepare yourself for raids.
Preparations
Having a backpack with good capacity is very important. You should also specialize one of your survivors by developing Powerhouse skill - it allows survivors to carry more items. A character send on these missions should limit their equipment to minimum, e.g. they should carry a melee weapon, a firearm, one bandage and one snack. Characters with high Wit and Cardio are perfect for being scouts because they can move fast and they can search rooms without making too much noise.
Breaking in
Not all doors are open in State of Decay 2. This means that you will often have to break locked doors. Another way of entering a locked room is to jump through a window. Both actions create a lot of noise - this can draw attention of zombies in your area. Prepare your weapon before you start breaking in or kill all enemies first.
Searching
When it comes to survival, it is important to act fast and focus only on the most important things - look only for highlighted items with a container icon. Remember that you need to be close to an object in order to start examining it. Searching can be done in two ways: traditional and quick mode. Remember that quick searching makes a lot of noise. Also, if your character has low Wit, they can break an item while they are searching it which will alarm nearby zombies. Search rooms slowly if you don't have enough skills - this helps you avoid situations where you break contents of a bookshelf or a chest.
Managing space in a backpack
During exploration, it is important to distinguish valuable items from junk. This is especially important during longer trips where you don't have any outposts to store your items. Break down useless items if you run out of space in your backpack. You can also reload your weapon or consume weaker medicaments - this creates a little bit of space that can be used by other, more valuable items. However, if all carried items are valuable and can be used then you should take them back to the base and go back for the rest.
