Comparison of skills and upgrades | Skills Quantum Break Guide
Last update: 03 June 2016
Quantum Break is different from other games in terms of your protagonist's abilities. Your hero can control time to a certain extent, and thus influence combat and the storyline itself. The following list presents all the available skills.
Time Vision/Time Sense
The first ability that you unlock (Act I, part 2). Can be used only when you stand still. It allows you to scan the surrounding area and tag elements according to three colors:
- Blue - weapons and ammo,
- Red - opponents,
- Yellow - secrets and interactive objects (explosive barrels, hooks etc.)
Furthermore, this ability can be used to recreate events from the past (element of the storyline). Chronon Sources, which can be used to upgrade your skills can also be found via Time Sense. When you are near them (and Time Sense is active) you will see a small radar in the middle of your screen.
Time Vision ability can be upgraded three times:
- Active Pulse (cost - 1) - using Time Dodge / Time Rush will allow you to see enemies for a short while, similarly to when using Time Vision.
- Increased Threat Detection (cost - 4) - enemies are marked for longer time.
- Increased Range (cost - 6) - increases the scanning range.
Time Stop
One of the abilities that you acquire early in the game (Act I, part 2). You can use it to stop time for a while - it creates a sphere that prevents one from moving. Use Time Stop to immobilize your enemies or stop objects that would normally halt you from moving forward.
Immobilizing opponents, especially those with armor, will give you enough time to shoot. Your bullet will hit the target as soon as your Time Stop ends. Unfortunately, this ability is practically useless against white agents.
Time Stop ability can be upgraded three times:
- Increased Strength (cost - 1) - increases the durability of the created zone, allowing you to fire more bullets into it. After the zone disappears, the bullets will fly towards enemies.
- Increased Size (cost - 4) - increases the bubble, allowing you to catch more enemies inside of it.
- Extra Activation (cost - 6) - allows you to use up to three Time Stops at the same time.
Time Dodge
You will unlock Time Dodge in Act I, part 3. This ability will let you dodge attacks with incredible speed. Use it to take cover in a matter of seconds or avoid grenades. Hitting your enemy in a rush will knock him down (if he is not wearing any armor), and thus make him an easy target. Use Time Dodge to pass obstacles.
Time Dodge ability can be upgraded three times:
- Increased Focus (cost - 1) - increases the duration of the Focus Time (Time Aim) effect.
- Maximum Focus (cost - 4) - increases the duration of the Focus Time even further.
- Extra Activation (cost - 6) - allows you to use the ability three times in a row.
Time Focus
You will unlock it at the same time as Time Dodge (Act I, part 3). However, you can combine it with Time Run. The rule is simple: right before you finish your run/dodge press aim - time will stop for a while and you will be able to take down your opponents with less effort.
This ability is a secondary one. You can upgrade it independently in the Time Dodge tab. This ability is not shown on the list of abilities.
Time Shield
You will acquire it at the end of Act I, part 3. Upgrade it as quickly as possible as it can be a real life saver. Activate it to create a "bubble" that will protect you from bullets. The only drawback is that you have to stand still - if you move away from your safe zone, it will disappear.
Time Shield will allow you to regenerate your health, reload your weapons and attack your enemies from a safe position. Its durability is limited, so don't use it in the middle of a battlefield. If your enemy ends up in your shield when you activate the ability, it will slow him down and slightly throw him off. Time Shield can also be used to immobilize dangerous elements of the surrounding area.
Time Shield ability can be upgraded three times:
- Recovery (cost - 1) - while being in the Time Shield zone you regain health quicker.
- Slow Time (cost - 4) - activating Time Shield causes time to slow down.
- Increased Power (cost - 6) - the ability lasts longer and has increased area of effect.
Time Blast
You won't be able to use it until Act II, part 1. Use this ability to charge and fire energy at a single target or a group of enemies. Your projectile can slow down your opponents but in contrast to Time Stop, it can cause severe damage. You can fire from behind cover, and because this is basically the only ability that can cause damage, it will be your prime means of attack. When playing on low difficulty level, a single projectile should eliminate armored enemies.
Time Blast ability can be upgraded twice:
- Increased Blast Radius (cost - 2) - increases the area of effect of the ability.
- Reduced Cooldown (cost - 6) - decreases the time needed for the ability to be available again.
Time Run
The last skill that you will acquire in Act III, part 1. Holding down the button responsible for skill activation will allow you to run when everything around you slows down. However, you can only run for a limited time. Use it to reach cover, avoid enemies, or to move faster during your adventures.
You can use Time Focus at the end of your run to knock down unarmored opponents and avoid traps.
Time Run ability can be upgraded twice:
- Increased Focus (cost - 2) - increases the duration of the Focus Time (Time Aim) effect.
- Multi-Takedown (cost - 6) - knocking down enemies while running consumes less energy, allowing it to regenerate quicker and to use the ability more often.
