Valve Is Planning Something Special for Half-Life 2's 20th Anniversary, Suggests Heavy Traffic on Steam

Valve is busily updating the „test” version of Half-Life 2, which seems to confirm a sizable update for the 20th anniversary of the release of the iconic FPS.

The twentieth anniversary of Half-Life 2's premiere is fast approaching and everything indicates that the second adventure of Gordon Freeman will indeed receive a similar update to its prequel.

Already in August, it was noticed that a "test" version of the second installment of the Half-Life series appeared on Steam, unavailable to players. But that's not all. Since then, this "branch" has been regularly updated and as noted by PCGamesN (via SteamDB), it has been changed several times since the beginning of October, including at least once a day for the last week. The changes include, among others, adding new values to content description, warning against "frequent violence or gore" and "general adult content".

Just a reminder: similar movements on Steam could be noticed a year ago on the card of the first installment of the series. As it later turned out, these were preparations for a major Half-Life update for the series' 25th anniversary, after which we also received a handful of minor hotfixes.

So, the mere appearance of a similar beta version already indicated the release of an adequate update by Valve. If anyone had any doubts, the fact that the company is apparently intensively testing this "branch" of Half-Life 2 should dispel them completely.

Of course, any rumors around the Half-Life series also have to raise hopes for a continuation - that is, the release of the memetically legendary Half-Life 3. Perhaps the meme will soon become outdated, at least that's what fans are hoping for in the context of recent reports about discoveries in the Steam database. Nevertheless, it is better to curb your enthusiasm here and wait for any official information from Valve.
