Half-Life 2: Episode 3 Fan Version Received 10-Minute Demo. You Can Download It on Steam
We finally got a demo of Project Borealis, a free fan-made game that is supposed to replace the canceled Half-Life 2: Episode Three.
Yesterday, we saw the release of Project Borealis: Prologue, a short demo of a fan project aiming to realize the plot of the abandoned Half-Life 2: Episode Three.
- You can download the prologue from Steam.
- The demo is 5.64 GB in size.
- In the Prologue, we play as Gordon Freeman, who returns to the well-known Ravenholm in winter.
The demo is very well-made. The game is being developed on Unreal Engine 5 and showcases what a modern version of the Half-Life series could look like. Despite abandoning the Source technology, the creators managed to recreate the atmosphere and gameplay mechanics of HL2. However, don't expect a long game. You can finish the prologue in about ten minutes.
Unfortunately, it's currently unknown when we can expect the launch of the full version of the game. However, the demo has us hoping that the developers will be able to see this project through to the end.
Fan-made Half-Life 2: Episode Three
Project Borealis will follow the storyline of Epistle Three, which was published in 2016 by screenwriter Marc Laidlaw after he left Valve. Since then, Valve has changed its plans regarding this brand, and in Half-Life: Alyx, some elements appeared that contradict the canon of Epistle Three. The creators of Project Borealis: Prologue decided to ignore it. It was ultimately a good move, as more and more indications suggest that Valve is finally working on Half-Life 3. Thanks to this, the fan-made sequel will be more distinguishable from the official one.
