Dark Interval Part 2 is 5-6 hours of pure fun in the Half-Life 2 universe
The huge Dark Interval Part 2 mod for Half-Life 2 has been released, offering a multi-hour campaign built from ideas abandoned by the Valve studio.
Lately, fans of the Half-Life series have not had many reasons to complain. A recent update refreshed HL2 and allowed the second part of the series, allowing it to set a new activity record on Steam. Also it’s becoming increasibly likely Valve is indeed working on Half-Life 3. While waiting for the official announcement of the new installment, fans are trying to pass the time by creating notable modifications. Recently, we got new version of Black Mesa: Blue Shift, and today we want to draw your attention to the newly released second part of the excellent mod Dark Interval.
The first part was released in 2016, so we have been waiting a long time for the continuation. The project was developed as an alternative story, entirely composed of discarded elements from Half-Life 2. The authors prepared their own locations, characters, and storylines, based on what Valve originally had planned but ultimately cut before release.

All of this has been appropriately reworked to create a coherent storyline for the new campaign. The entire project is very well executed, in most places easily matching up to what the base HL2 offers. To achieve such quality, the authors developed everything from scratch. Specifically, this means they did not directly take any elements from the early version of the game that leaked in 2003. They based some of their work on the locations ideas and plot points from that SKU, but every aspect of their mod, including all maps, was created by hand.
It is worth mentioning that the new version of the mod includes not only the second part of the project but also a slightly enhanced version of the first part. Dark Interval Part 2 is divided into five chapters, which together take about 5-6 hours to complete. By comparison, finishing Part 1 takes only an hour, although it contains four chapters.
The developers do not intend to go on vacation. They are currently focusing on bug fixes for Dark Interal Part 2, and after that’s done their will start the work on the third part of the series.
