The Year-long War in EVE Online Comes to an End
Another great war in EVE Online is coming to an end. It lasted over a year and was influenced by the pandemic and the European Football Championship.
- EVE Online has just seen the conclusion of a war that has lasted over a year;
- Numerous records have been set during its course;
- Invading forces retreated and defenders recapture lost positions.
For thirteen months, a great war between the PAPI Coalition and the Goonswarm Federation has played out in EVE Online. The scale of the conflict was enormous and led to the setting of records in terms of number of players involved in a single battle and its cost. There were also some interesting events during the conflict, such as the Christmas Truce. But now the war called World War Bee II is coming to an end. The attacking forces are retreating and the defenders are taking back the positions they lost earlier.
The cause of the conflict was the PAPI Coalition invasion, led by the Test Alliance, on the Goonswarm Federation territory. As community developer Peter Farrell told PCGamesN, the attackers intended to surround the enemy, disrupt their supply routes and make as much money as possible. They would then slowly advance deeper into enemy territory and see if they could make further progress. Recently, however, their offensive has lost momentum.
According to Farrell, there are two main reasons for this. The first is the lifting of pandemic restrictions in certain countries. Players from those countries were finally able to engage in activities outside their homes, so they took a break from EVE. The second one is the European Football Championship, which attracted a lot of viewers to their TV sets. Unfortunately, some of them abandoned their spaceships.
Their opponents, for some reason, avoided such problems. The Goonswarm Federation was constantly recruiting, which enabled it to expand its forces. This phenomenon was quickly noticed by the brass of PAPI Coalition, which decided to lead the final offensive in the near future, betting everything on one card. However, some members of the alliance were not convinced about this kind of action and started withdrawing their forces. When the Goonswarm Federation noticed that the ranks of their opponents were beginning to thin, they moved to counterattack.
This caused a full retreat of PAPI Coalition forces, with their enemies hot in pursuit. There have been minor clashes in some places, but the situation seems to be clear. The Goonswarm Federation is regaining more and more of their lost systems and strengthening its positions. The original invaders are not interested in further fights. So it seems that World War Bee II is coming to an end.
However, it is not known whether the end of this war will not mean the beginning of another one. It is possible that the Goonswarm Federation will want to get back at their opponents. For now their forces are focused on securing the regained territories. In the future they may move on to conquer more. This time at the expense of the PAPI Coalition.
