The Witcher Showrunner on First Episodes of Season 2
Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, showrunner of Netflix's The Witcher, told us what to expect from the first episodes of the second season. She also revealed which of Sapkowski's works they will be based on.
Netflix has released a short video featuring the showrunner of The Witcher, Lauren Schmidt Hissrich. The creator talked about what we should expect from the first episodes of season 2 (and especially its pilot). She also revealed which of Sapkowski's books the plot will be based on:
"It was the worst-kept secret we've had, but we are adapting A Grain of Truth for the opening of our season two of The Witcher. After season one, I thought maybe that our chance to finish the short stories, that we lost that. And instead, we were able to adapt this story and to bring Ciri into it. It's a story of a father and daughter coming together in a place that doesn't quite feel safe for them. And, of course, we really get into Nivellen, who's played by the incomparable Kristofer Hivju. We get to explore his character and backstory with Geralt as well. It's really the perfect kickoff for season two because it's about family. It's about the secrets we keep from each other and it's about the monsters that we are inside sometimes."
So the creators are still sticking with adaptations of Sapkowski's short stories, on which season one was largely based. Hissrich is apparently very keen to make sure that as much of the book material as possible appears in the series at the end, which is rather good news.
It's also gratifying that Kristofer Hihju as Nivellen will play an important role in the series. He's a very talented actor, who so far became prominent thanks to Game of Thrones, where he played Tormund, the red-bearded savage from the other side of the Wall.
The Witcher Season 2 will debut on Netflix on December 17, 2021.. In the main roles we will see Henry Cavill, Anya Chalotra and Freya Allan.
