Legendary Sci-Fi Game Is Getting a Survival Spin-Off. One Detail Led Many Gamers to Give Up on EVE Frontier
EVE Online will soon receive a survival spin-off EVE Frontier. The announcement of the new game has infuriated gamers because of the business model.
Studio CCP has announced EVE Frontier, a survival spin-off of the popular space MMO EVE Online.
- The player takes on the role of a pilot who awakens from a long sleep in a chaotic region of space. In this place, only ruins remain of the former civilization, armies of AI-controlled drones hunt down any survivors, and the region is full of black holes and other dangerous anomalies.
- We will have complete control over our ship in EVE Frontier, resembling space shooters rather than MMOs. In addition to the survival gameplay and combat, key roles will be played by elements such as trading, gathering resources, unit upgrades, and even programming.
- It will take place on one server, where all players will play at the same time. Their common goal is to rebuild civilization. Construction will be mostly automated, but it will be carried out using a simple programming system that gives users a lot of freedom to shape space structures.
- The game is coming to PC. For now, the developers aren't ready to announce the planned release date.
Fans are furious
While it may sound very cool, the reactions of EVE Online fans to this announcement are very negative. It's all because of the business model. Players will trade real money as the entire virtual economy of the game will be based on the Ethereum cryptocurrency. The gameplay is to be based on blockchain technology, which will allow, for instance, the creation of virtual stores where other players will buy our products using the aforementioned programming system.
Places where EVE Online fans gather, such as Reddit and the official forums, have been flooded with negative comments. Gamers are complaining loudly that they don't want any blockchain nonsense. They consider the idea of EVE Frontier to be tragic and fear that it will distract the studio from improving EVE Online.
