„Stop milking an anime that ended 15 years ago.” Code Geass fans have enough of new spin-offs when several new projects are in plans

New projects from the Code Geass universe have been announced, however, this hasn't been met with an enthusiastic response. Fans are asking to „stop milking an anime that ended 15 years ago”.

Code Geass was a true phenomenon that climbed to the top of anime charts, becoming one of the best. The series remains one of the most recommended titles by anime fans to this day, more than 15 years after its premiere, and for good reason – Lelouch's story, although not without flaws, is engaging, exciting, and the ending is satisfying.

There is one problem with CG, though. For years, the creators have been trying to replicate the success of the original by creating subsequent spin-offs, which unfortunately have not been able to achieve the same level of success. Fans are starting to grow tired of their beloved series being torn apart, which is why the announcement of new projects from the Code Geass universe wasn't met with as much enthusiasm as might have been expected.

In 2026, Code Geass will be celebrating its 20th anniversary. Recently, the CG creators, along with the actors who played Lelouch, Jun Fukuyama, and Roze, Kohei Amakasaki, announced that new projects in this universe are in the works.

Amakasaki said (via Comicbook):

Today I once again felt that I was able to become a part of this continuing series. During the stage greeting at the final act of Rose's Recapture, I used Geass on Producer Taniguchi, asking him to make a sequel, so I think that someday I will be able to deliver the story of Rose and Sakuya to everyone again. Thank you for your continued support! I was also happy to hear that new works are being prepared, so I hope that it will continue to be a work that stimulates everyone's brains.

The mentioned projects' nature is still unknown – they could be another anime, manga, game, visual novel, or possibly something else.

However, fans are skeptical about the idea of further spin-offs and ask the creators to leave Code Geass. The original series set the bar very high, and it's hard for subsequent CG shows to match it. This led to disappointments, resulting in a lack of desire to further expand the series, which had one outstanding show and several inferior ones that were soon forgotten.

I want something completely unrelated to Lelouch of the Rebellion. Stop milking an anime that ended 15 years ago, make something else – kinger74__.

At this point, they can either remake the original series or make something entirely new, Code Geass story is already kinda done, and doing more just hurt it more than help – SillyGillyChantilly .

Stop milking it. S2 was perfect. Everything else was unnecessary and bad – MoldovanIosua.

Resurrection's ending was all I could ever want. Nothing else is needed – CautiouslyGood.

Quantity over quality, so tired of these underwhelming projects they have spat out - RuinerWard.

Some Code Geass fans, however, have expressed interest in new projects. Their comments suggest that they would like to see something completely different, perhaps on a smaller scale, focusing more on the genesis of Geass. Nevertheless, they don't want to watch the same story with the same characters or their clones again, which is what we saw to some extent in Code Geass: Roze of the Recapture. The plot and characters strongly resembled what we could see in Lelouch of the Rebellion, which was widely criticized.
