Update: The situation with servers seem to be more or less stable now, as new servers appeared. Moreover, it seems that creating community servers is now possible, too. However, doing that may be connected with a bug – the game can start working in 30 FPS.
Following the step of warmly received Star Wars Dark Forces Remastered, we have now been treated to reedition of the other beloved series in the franchise – Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection, which includes first and second part of original Star Wars Battlefront. This bundle of two legendary games is sadly not off to a good start, as players experience severe problems with multiplayer component of this title. Let’s dive deeper to see what’s the core of the problem and if there is anything that can be done about it.
Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection multiplayer and server issues explained
It would seem that Star Wars universe is vast, allowing for many stories to be told, offering a place for everyone. This does not hold true for the recently released Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection. Players, especially on PC, are unable to jump into the galactic warzone due to server problems. What gives?
There is a lot to unpack here. Even though both games included in the bundle offer a single player campaign, the main focus of this production is put on the multiplayer component. The developers promised up to 64 players battles… which is true, but as of now, there is only a handful of official servers allowing for online play. This amounts to no more than a couple of hundred people playing together.
The answer to these problems would be allowing fans to create and host their own servers, which the game allows for, but for yet unknown reasons, this feature is currently disabled. The situation is slightly better on consoles, which the production also found a way to, yet it’s still a far cry from what we would expect from multiplayer focused title.
Unfortunately, there is nothing to be done from the players’ side. We all have to arm ourselves with patience and wait for the developers to release a patch fixing all the problems and enabling more servers to be played on. With how fierce the fans’ response has been thus far, we should expect a resolution relatively soon.
