PS5 Has a Hidden Web Browser

One of the features that the PlayStation 5 lacks is an easily accessible web browser. But as it turns out, the console has a hidden application that enables us to surf the web... under certain conditions.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  1. PS5 officially does not allow for surfing the Internet;
  2. But the console does have a hidden browser;
  3. It can be used to visit any website, whose link can be found on Twitter.

PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 had built-in web browsers. Although they were rather crude, they were there and they worked. Even though the PS5 wasn't officially given this feature, Sony equipped the console with a kind of hidden browser. Access to it is a bit difficult and its possibilities are limited, but it's better than nothing.

The way to launch the browser was shared by Ars Technica. As it turns out, the gateway to the Internet on PlayStation 5 is our Twitter account to which we can connect the console. To do this, we need to go to the hardware settings, select Users and Accounts, select Link with Other Services and then connect the console to our Twitter profile. We will then see a login window for this service, from which ywe can exit by clicking on the small Twitter logo visible in the top left-hand corner of the screen (as in the picture below).

Twitter literally the gateway to the Internet on PlayStation 5 (image source: Ars Technica).

Then the whole Twitter will be open to us, and thanks to it - any website to which we can find a link on the service. Although the browser does not allow us to visit sites by typing their URL in the address bar, we should not have a problem with surfing the Internet by visiting subsequent pages via Twitter. As the authors inform us, this way we can not only reach the official Xbox website or websites like Vimeo and YouTube (and play videos published on them, of course), but even websites containing retro game emulators.

Unfortunately, PS5's secret web browser cannot handle all websites; problems can be found on the official Spotify website and Google Documents, for example.
