Problems With PS5 Availability
Disturbing news about PS5 is coming to us from all over the world. Many stores inform customers that they will not be able to complete all pre-orders.
The worrying information that not everyone who has placed a pre-order will receive their PS5 on time has been confirmed. Stores in several countries have informed of difficulties in completing pre-orders. Some, like Media Expert in Poland, are outright cancelling. This seems to be due to the fact that new guidelines for the allocation of devices have arrived in stores in Poland and retailers have been accepting more pre-orders than they would have been able to deliver. Other retailers simply inform of delays. Amazon has already spoken in a similar tone about the problems with pre-sales of PS5, and more reports are coming from the UK. ShopTo sent an email to the customers who pre-ordered the console, saying that due to the new guidelines for allocating PlayStation 5 supplies to specific markets, the store would be unable to send the device on the day of launch to everyone. Further on in the Pre-Order Order message ShopTo indicates that Sony may notify the store that more consoles have been delivered and that these will then be shipped in the order of the order list.
Disturbing news also comes from Ireland, where the local GameStop branch in the messages sent to customers who pre-ordered PS5, informs that they have received official confirmation from Sony that those who do not receive the consoles in November will have to wait until 2021, as only then will their orders be completed. The following email also informs that the pre-order guarantees the customer a place in the waiting list and ensures that as soon as the new delivery arrives, their PS5 will be sent to the store.
It seems that the chaos associated with the coronavirus pandemic, combined with huge demand and lack of precise information about when the console can be purchased, has caused serious delays in deliveries. For the time being there are no reports that Microsoft has any problems with processing pre-orders, so it's possible that customers who don't get their PS5 on time will look favourably on the competing consoles.
