Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is an animated series about the spider superhero that will air on Disney+ on January 29, 2025. In the series, we will follow Peter Parker on his path to becoming a hero. A new adventure in a style that celebrates the character's origins in the comics, this is what you can expect from Marvel's new animated series.
Is Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man from the MCU?
A key question for many viewers will be whether Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is connected to the MCU. Is the Peter Parker we will see in the animation the same one played by Tom Holland, only younger? Or is it a completely different character with no ties to the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man is a standalone story from the MCU, so it is not related to known productions. It’s action takes place in an alternate timeline from the main films and television series of the MCU. Here's the deal, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man was originally intended to be a prequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming with Tom Holland, but that idea was scrapped. The team responsible for the series realized that tying themselves to the movies in this way only limited them, so plans changed.
If Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man had remained a prequel with ties to the MCU, the creators would not have been able to take advantage of his rogues gallery or his genesis. Everything would have to depend on what we've learned so far about Spider-Man from the MCU, without taking away from the adversaries the MCU might be planning to introduce in future films.
One thing remains from the original plans for the connections – the vibe and tone of the Tom Holland films. Besides, this is the story of a different Peter Parker, who has Norman Osborne as his mentor instead of Tony Stark.
