In the final part of The Idol of Ra quest in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Indy will find the titular artifact inside one of the pyramids. Taking the statuette will unfortunately trigger a sand trap and it is very easy to get buried there and die. Our guide explains how to get out of the pyramid before it is buried.

Reaching the Idol of Ra and activating the trap

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Machine Games, 2024

  1. You will reach the pyramid chamber with the Idol of Ra at the end of your visit to Gizeh, as part of the main storyline. This will happen shortly after solving the Cave of Darkness puzzle and dealing with the blind giant; we described it on a separate page of the guide.
  2. Indy will grab the Idol of Ra only to learn a few moments later that it has activated a trap: sand will start flowing into the chamber and you will have to get to the surface before the pyramid fills up completely.

How to avoid the sand trap and escape from the pyramid?

  1. Initially, remain still and allow some sand to flow into the room. Head towards the upper opening shown in the screenshot above.
  2. It is very important to keep pressing the jump button regularly: this is the only way Indy will stay on the sand and will not be pulled inside (this would mean instant death).

  1. Once you get to the opening, start sprinting. The escape path is linear, but you'll need to use the whip along the way (see the screenshot). If you're having trouble getting the whip button to appear, try activating it while jumping.

  1. Indy will slide down, thanks to which you will return to the surface and this sequence will come to an end.

Shortly after escaping from the pyramid, you will also have to protect Indy from scorpion attacks; we've described this scene on a separate page: How to avoid scorpions?.

Some puzzles in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle are quite challenging, which is why we recommend checking out our guide, where you’ll find solutions to all the puzzles and also our interactive map.
