How to Fix Risk of Rain 2 (RoR2) not Working on Xbox
Risk of Rain 2 doesn't seem to fare well recently, especially with the latest patch that broke Xbox version of the game completely. Here you will learn more about it and possible workarounds that will allow you to play the game on that platform.
Hopoo is an indie game developer mostly known for their Risk of Rain series, but they have also created Deadbolt, which I personally can’t recommend enough. Nevertheless, RoR is their main achievement which, as an IP, has been bought out by Gearbox back in 2022. We have just recently received a second DLC to Risk of Rain 2 entitled Seekers of the Storm, which is rather coldly welcomed by the fans on Steam. At least those players can try it for themselves, as there are huge problems with Xbox version of this production, which is in such poor state, that it doesn’t even allow for starting a run. In this article you will find more information about what the current situation is and if there is anything that can be done about it.
Risk of Rain 2 not working on Xbox explained
Updates are a great sign that a game is still maintained and cared about. However, sometimes, there are patches released that can mess things up. Undoubtedly, the most recent example is Risk of Rain 2, which interestingly works on PC and PlayStation, yet struggles on Xbox. However, saying that it works is not entirely true, as many people report that it’s “very buggy” and “half baked”. The Xbox version doesn’t work completely, though.
There are cunning players, who shared their methods of dealing with this issue on Reddit. In a nutshell, there are 3 things that can be done:
- Working around the problem by playing on a fresh save slot, since old ones do not work.
- Being quick. As soon as the game starts, try opening the logbook, which quite fast gets greyed out. If you’ve managed to access it, exit this menu, and you should be able to play eclipse using the last character that you have used before the patch.
- Using a second controller as a guest. However, this tends to break the character select screen.
With the update completely breaking Xbox version of the game and being unfinished on PC, begs the question of the QA done, if any. Since the IP is now in Gearbox’s hands, we would assume that such a big company would take great care of their products’ quality. Hopefully, the developers will create a patch soon addressing those issues.
What is also concerning is lack of official stance on major community outlets like X (Twitter) or Risk of Rain’s Discord server (though, in this case, if you are inquisitive enough, it is possible to find posts from developers with information that they try to fix the problem). This does not fill hearts with hope about the upcoming Risk of Rain: Hostile Worlds, which is a mobile spinoff of the RoR series.
