Fans of Classic Clive Barker's Undying Horror FPS Realized Creators' Abandoned Plans
Version 1.4 of Undying-Renewal, the most important enhancement project for Clive Barker's classic FPS Undying, has been released. The new edition of the mod introduced multiplayer into the game, which was originally in the game's developers' plans but was eventually abandoned.
Older gamers probably remember the game Clive Barker's Undying, a wonderful horror-themed FPS that hit the PC in 2001. Unfortunately, it never got a sequel, but thankfully fans keep the game alive through mods. We're writing about this because a new version of the most important one, Undying-Renewal, has just been released.
The aim of the project is to refresh the game and make it compatible with modern PCs. The developers have fixed bugs, improved the gameplay and balancing of the campaign, and restored cut content. New features that were only available in the PlayStation 2 conversion of the game were also implemented, and the project offers support for widescreen resolutions. An additional plus is a convenient launcher, allowing not only to freely configure many elements of the game but also to easily load fan-made missions.

The new version of Undying-Renewal is numbered 1.4, and the most important thing about it is that the authors have added multiplayer. Clive Barker's Undying did not offer such an option, but it was in the plans for a long time and was only abandoned sometime before the release, due to lack of resources and time to fully implement it. Initially, multiplayer was still planned to be released in a patch, but ultimately nothing came of it. Only now have these plans been realized thanks to the moders.
Version 1.4 also brings bug fixes, better optimization, as well as additional game configuration options. In addition, the authors have added one new type of weapon.
Clive Barker's Undying is a great game that can be comfortably played on modern PCs thanks to this modification. This is a very good thing because this title does not deserve to be forgotten.
Better textures?
One of the things that Undying-Renewal does not improve is textures. The authors didn't have to bother with it because of the existence of Undying Hidef project. This mod remasters the textures, boosting them to 4K.
Of course, the original textures are from 2001, so don't expect miracles. These are still the same elements, only that they are now a bit prettier and less blurry, but they still make the game more enjoyable, so it's worth installing this mod.
It should be added that the mod requires Undying-Renewal or, alternatively, an older DirectX 11 Renderer project to work because the original game does not allow texture swapping. Such a feature was introduced only by these modifications.
