eBay Battles Offers Selling PS5 Photos
Continuation of the story about PlayStation 5 shortages. This time, unfair users are auctioning console's photos. They hope that those looking for the device will not read the description and make a impulsive purchase. eBay decided to tackle the problem.
- eBay has been flooded with offers of PlayStation 5 images.
- Less attentive users have decided to purchase the images, thinking they will get the console.
- eBay has taken steps to remove such auctions and punish sellers.
PlayStation 5 made an excellent debut and the console sold out so quickly that it is now virtually unattainable at a reasonable price. The popularity of Sony's device has been exploited by eBay users, flooding the website with offers of... PS5 photos.
This is, of course, a form of "hunting" for inattentive people, who often desperately seek to buy the new console. They don't read the full description of the auction, which ends with a painful disappointment and loss of money for them. Selling pictures of products instead of actual products is nothing new, which is why the biggest websites remind customers to be careful.
eBay, which has received numerous complaints from dissatisfied consumers, has decided to tackle the problem. The American company announced its decision in an official statement:
"We condemn these opportunistic sellers who are attempting to mislead other users. We are in the process of removing all listings for photos of PS5s from our marketplace and will be taking appropriate action against the sellers."
Let's hope that eBay will soon be able to truly deal with these types of offers and that other websites will follow. Unfortunately, at this point in time you can easily find for PS5 photo offers. Many people will probably say that the careless buyers are at fault. I leave the judgment to you, in my opinion, it is a manifestation not of the sellers' cleverness, but of their greed.
This is just one of many attempts by third parties to make money on the popularity of the new consoles. Recently we have also informed about scalpers buying out the devices, who then put it up for sale at gouged prices. Sony also had to deal with gamers selling others access to PS Plus Collection for a fee.
