SEGA Confirms Total War Devs are Still Working on New FPS

Tim Heaton, Sega Europe's chief studios officer, confirmed in an interview for GamesIndustry that the devs at Creative Assembly continue to work on a first-person shooter. It is possible that other new IPs are also being created in the company.

IN A NUTSHELL:

  1. Creative Assembly is still working on an FPS;
  2. Tim Heaton, Sega Europe's chief studios officer, has confirmed that the devs at CA are working on new IPs.

Sega announced that one of its studios, Creative Assembly - the developers best known for creating the Total War strategy game series - is still working on a new first-person shooter. The game was confirmed last February (in July we learned that in some respects it may resemble such titles as Apex Legends or Overwatch).

Sega Europe's chief studios officer confirmed in an interview for GamesIndustry that the mysterious shooter is still being made. Tim Heaton also admitted that the developers are working on "new IPs". - Interestingly, he clearly uses the plural in his statement, and the context suggests that he is referring to Creative Assembly, which suggests that the Brits have more than one completely new project in mind.

"Each one of our studios really does own a franchise, and they're all mature now by and large. So what we're trying to do now is look at new IP. There's a new FPS game coming from Creative Assembly, and they're growing teams around new IPs. Our internal studios have this two-pronged strategy: do more with what you've got, and think about new IP," said Heaton.

For now it's hard to say what Creative Assembly's mysterious shooter may be and what other IPs the studio is working on. Although the developers have gathered experience mostly in strategy games, they have already managed to show that they are able to create completely different things, and extremely successful at that, as proven by survival horror game Alien: Isloation. It is to be hoped that soon we will see the official announcement of another CA production.
