Diablo brand head Rod Fergusson shared some good news for owners of the Vessel of Hatred expansion, but it may not appeal to those who only play the base game. In an interview for Polygon, the CEO that the next seasons of Diablo 4 will feature exclusive content only available in the expansion.

This isn't an entirely new concept, and we've seen it before in other games, but still, some people may feel disappointed, especially when looking at the current season 6. The season was released alongside Vessel of Hatred, and its content was also accessible to players who didn't buy the expansion. In the upcoming 7th season, the situation will most likely change.

We’re going to continue to develop features that will be, essentially, exclusive to Vessel of Hatred owners.

Fergusson believes that Diablo 4 is divided into "chapters," the first of which will end with season 6. Chapter two will begin with season 7 and will last until the "future," which is most likely the next expansion.

So we’re going to continue to have [Vessel of Hatred] be valuable beyond season 6 as well. We intend to make DLC valuable even after the 6th season.

Unfortunately, Fergusson didn't reveal any details about the exclusive features. There's no denying that they would be helpful, as the base game players would then have an idea of the scale being discussed. They will still, of course, receive new content, but at this moment it is unknown how much of it will be reserved for Vessel of Hatred. Blizzard may lock a lot of content behind the expansion, thereby encouraging players to buy it.
