All You Need to Know About Multiplayer and Local Coop in Luma Island
Does Luma Island support local co-op and multiplayer? Let's explore the potential for dedicated servers and the future of couch co-op gaming.
Luma Island is a brand-new cozy RPG adventure where you can build your dream farm, hone your skills, and explore a mysterious island alongside up to four friends in co-op mode. While these features may sound familiar, reminiscent of games like Stardew Valley or Fields of Mistria, Luma Island sets itself apart in several ways. Though the absence of romance options might feel like a drawback, the developers have promised a more exploration-driven experience with seven distinctive professions to master. However, some players have pointed out another missing feature: local co-op and multiplayer. Let's see what Feel Free Games has to say about these aspects of the game.
Future of Local Coop in Luma Island
When asked about the plans for local/couch co-op in Luma Island on a Steam thread, one of the developers answered:
We have had this on our design board for a while but sadly we didn't get the time to add it in before launch. This is definitely something that will be discussed in great detail after launch!
With the game having just launched on November 20, 2024, and the Steam charts showing significant interest, it’s likely that Feel Free Games is already prioritizing this feature for future updates. Now, it’s just a matter of waiting, much like we are for the release on Xbox, PlayStation and Switch consoles.
Multiplayer in Luma Island Explained
Multiplayer in Luma Island allows you to team up with up to four friends in co-op mode. However, there are no dedicated servers, meaning you can only play on the same world when the host is online. Given the game’s day-and-night cycle, progression mechanics, and certain story events, implementing a seamless multiplayer mode is likely a challenging task for the developers.
