Codexes Necropolis Guide

Last update: 08 August 2016

The following chapter will described all the available codexes and bonuses that come with them.

They can be obtained in the Scriptorium, which can be located in each sphere ending a given level. You can only purchase them with points, so choose them wisely. Each tome will provide you with passive bonuses, which will differ from one another. Depending on its usefulness, the price of a codex can be several or dozen of points. To obtain the most expensive tomes, you will have to sacrifice a couple of heroes (which shouldn't be much of a problem). There are twenty codexes total.

Remember that you can have one active codex at a time and choosing a new hero will require equipping him/her with one before it can be used. .

Lowers the stamina cost of blocking with a shield

Blocking blows is essential at any stage, unless you gain the skills that will make you dodge all incoming attacks. When facing several enemies, you can drain your stamina quickly, if you decide to block a lot. This codex will save you from running out of stamina when it's needed the most.

Increases attack power at the cost of defense.

Another codex that will be defined by your game style. Powerful strikes can be very useful, but if you don't have the skills to lure your enemies one by one, and you are not familiar to blocking, or dodging, you may actually get yourself killed quickly. You may try out if your skills are good enough but if you are just getting stated your adventure with Necropolis, you should choose a different codex.

Attacking has a chance to stun enemies

Useful throughout the entire game. Knockback can give you enough space to survive even a massive wave of creatures. Remember that you can attack opponents that will try to get up. One of the most useful passive abilities, especially when you take its cost into account.

Halves fall damage.

There won't be many situations when you will find this codex especially useful. You can use it to unlock "Sneaky, Sneaky", which is all about jumping to further levels of the dungeons without using any elevators. Apart from that, you won't use this codex, because getting thrown outside the level boundaries by an enemy will still result in your death.

Unlocks all crafting recipes.

A cheap and useful codex. Doesn't bring too much to the very gameplay, as you can purchase all the recipes from the Birds in the Chests that you come across from time to time. However, it is good to unlock it, especially at the beginning of the game. Having access to all the recipes can also be a method to test new approaches on the battlefield. Just keep in mind that most of the required components can be gathered on further levels.

Strictly associated with two-handed weapons. Such weapons have the greatest chance to knockback your opponents, which will eventually give you more time to locate yourself in better position or finish your enemy off. Regenerates health in small intervals.

A good solution for players who take their time. This codex can be very useful when there is an army of monsters just round the corner and we have little to no resources that would allow us to survive. If you knock down your enemies and get to a safe distance, you will have enough time to restore some of your health as well.

Increase amount of gems that drop.

Not very essential to the very gameplay, but useful when starting game with a new hero. When that happens, gaining enough gems can make us go through all the levels at a rapid pace. Just remember that such a passive bonus will prevent you from using bonuses that can support you on the battlefield.

A codex that will be especially useful during the last three levels of the catacombs, where creatures are larger and stronger. Being immune to knockdown can save our life many times, as surrounding monsters will waste no time and finish you off before you even have a chance to get up.

One of the most expensive codexes, but experienced players can find it very useful. Lowering the exhaustion of power attacks will grant you greater freedom of action, after the attack. Just remember that this codex will not prevent you from reducing the length of your stamina bar, and thus you still need potions and food.

Enables life-steal when attacking enemies.

The most expensive and the best codex in the entire game. The only problem is that it is hard to say how much life you will drain from an accurate blow. The developers declared that changes, which will make the inventory easier to follow, shall be introduced, but we don't know when exactly. Nevertheless, it's good to obtain this codex.
