Inspection system - how it works
Inspections in Mr. Prepper are designed to hinder gameplay. An agent will visit you every few days (his visit is announced - look for the glasses icon in the calendar).
The next visit will be determined after the inspection. During the inspection, the agent will check items in your home. There are objects that you can own and those that are prohibited.
You can check the legality and possible quantity of the goods by clicking on it and selecting the "Examine" option. Hover the cursor over the glasses icon in the lower right corner to see how many of these items you can have in view.
If the level of suspicion is too high during the inspection (especially when the agent finds a trapdoor and a planning board in your bedroom), you will be arrested and will have to load the last save.
After a few days, you will receive a letter from the agent with a list and the number of items that you can have in your home. Below you have a list of all the items that you need to keep in the house in plain view (plates or books can not be hidden in cupboards). You can have neither less nor more items.
The inspector usually comes around 1 pm - 3 pm. You have to be at home and open the door for him. If you do not, the inspection will be postponed to the next day, but you will receive a worse assessment.
To let the the inspector in, just go to the door. You can't move your character during the inspection.
Increasing the inspections' level
The level of inspection will increase every month. You will be informed about this by the Minuteman. In the first month, the agent will only check items (type/quantity) visible in the room and garden as well as those equipped. The items in your inventory are safe.
In the next months, the agent will monitor the level of electricity and water consumption. At this stage, install switches in the base to turn off the power from devices that you are not currently using. Also, limit the use of tap water by switching to rainwater caught in buckets.
In the third stage, you will have your lockers inspected. You should completely move to your base or clean up everything before the inspection.
Basic mistakes and how to avoid them
It's easy to be negatively judged by an inspector if you make a few basic mistakes. Below are tips on what to do before the inspection and how to avoid negative consequences:
- Have all the items from the list - not having them or having too much of these items will result in a negative score.
- Get rid of two barrels from the back garden.
- Cover the board in the bedroom and the trapdoor,
- Do an inspection yourself: check items at home, especially small items such as books, mugs, or a salt shaker. It is best to move them in one place to have control over their quantity.
- If possible, try not to dismantle the basic equipment of the house. You can then rebuild them or buy them in the store before the inspection, but it's easy to forget about doing that.
- Unequip the weapons, grenades, miner helmet with light from the equipment and hide in the inventory.
At higher inspection levels:
- Avoid using the cabinets in the apartment – an agent can start inspecting them.
- Place the devices wisely and install the switches - saving energy is important for later inspections, even if you are using additional generators.
- Stock up on alternative water sources: rainwater collection buckets or Waterloo 1815 "water extractor" (Workbench level 3).
