On this page of our guide to the game Humankind you will read about independent people, that is, smaller states and nations, which you will find in the game world.
Independent people do not have their own national identity - they cannot represent a unique culture, like other players. These are smaller factions controlled by artificial intelligence. They cannot acquire the era stars, build new cities or gather fame. You can trade with them, hire mercenaries, or join them to your empire (peacefully or by force).
Cities and types of independent people
Such city-states are marked gray on the map and have their own unique city name. They do not form a federation in any way, and you have to establish contact with each one separately. Independent people can appear in several ways.
- Sometimes their units wander aimlessly around the map until they find unoccupied territory. First they build an outpost, which will eventually turn into a city.
- If any city of the player has very low stability for many turns, it can also become independent as a result of the rebellion.
- The player can give the city into the hands of the people, by taking the city liberation action. Each of these actions will give the same effect-the appearance of an independent faction on the map.
We distinguish two types of factions - peaceful and violent . Tan first type will develop their city and will not cause any problems. Enemy tribes will often carry out raids, plunder your buildings and look for a hitch with each encountered army. Every rogue tribe has its own favorite ideology - if your empire thinks the same way, then it will be easier to establish friendly relations.
Relationships
Each independent city can be influenced by a special action - awarding money or points of influence. It will change the attitude of such a nation towards your empire. Each relationship threshold offers different bonuses:
- 0-10 no change in relationships.
- 10-60 Tolerant. A peaceful nation will share with you the field of vision of its own units, and you will be able to buy resources from them. The violent faction has made it possible to hire mercenaries, but it will continue to fight you.
- 60-90 Friendly. Peaceful nations will offer mercenaries for hire, and a violent nation will offer a field of vision and the opportunity to trade.
- 90-100 Cordial. You can begin the process of assimilation.
Assimilation
The process of assimilation is possible only at the maximum level of relationship. You need a lot of influence points, but the effect is instantaneous. Independent nation disappears from the map and you can't interact with them anymore. The city is annexed to your empire.. Moreover, all military units go under your control.. This is a good way to quickly increase combat strength.
If you don't have the time or the resources to assimilate or you see that another player has much better relationships with independent people, you can simply attack the city and conquer it by force. By doing so, you will take on another player and deprive him of easy prey. This way you can skip the whole process of assimilation and seeking a good relationship. This is a very useful way to quickly increase the number of cities, especially in the initial phase of the game.
If another player also had a high level of relationship, he can gain a reason for war and resentment, for you appropriating independent people. Be careful what nations you keep in contact with and who you intend to take over.
