On this page of the Heavy Rain Game Guide, you will find a description of Prologue scene. This is where you control Ethan, who is preparing for a party at home. This level does not contain any important choices, but you can win the first trophy here.

The wakeup explains why controlled by a new player character moves in not fully coordinated way

Get up. The tutorial in this chapter will introduce you to game controls which are rather simple. You can go to the balcony or you can look around the room and open the wardrobe. Sooner or later you will have to go to the bathroom (it's suggested by what Ethan thinks - L1 button on PS3/PS4). Take a shower. You can also shave and brush teeth.

Go along the glass wall to reach the working room

Now head back to the room and dress up (wardrobe). Then take the stairs and go down (you can juggle with little balls in kids' room before doing that). Now you have a choice - either to work or to go out to the garden. I suggest you work - there's nothing special in the garden, but the first one (work) is one of several actions required to unlock the Happy Birthday trophy, which can be obtained at the end of the prologue. Enter the atelier, take a seat and start drawing by picking up consecutive accessories. Follow the orders, the game will tell you what kind of actions you should take, so just go ahead and train a bit.

Shelf, red door, presents above - pick the plates from inside

Once you finish working, walk around house and go out to the garden. Your family will come back. Help your wife drag the shopping in. Your wife will want you to lay the table. Walk to the little shelf with presents on it and take out plates (You have to pull the doors). Put the plates on the table - carefully! Don't break any plates so you won't lock the (Happy Birthday) trophy. Now go back to your wife. Become affective, hug and kiss her. The outcome won't be very good - she will tell you to find some other things to do.

So take care of your kids - play with them in the garden. Make this helicopter thing and participate in a swordfight - choosing who to play with first will not affect the chances of unlocking the Happy Birthday achievement. Also, it doesn't matter if you lose or win. Now head upstairs to get Shaun. You will find him next to his bird, which is apparently dead. Talk to him.

The Mall

This page of Heavy Rain's Game Guide contains a walkthrough for The Mall chapter. During shopping, one of Ethan's sons will disappear and you have to locate the boy (Jason). This is a linear level where no decisions are made.

First go towards the clown and the balloons. You won't need to look inside the shops

Take care of Jason while your wife looks for shoes with Shaun. Go after him, he'll suddenly want a balloon. Buy it to him. While you will search for your cash, Jason - as every normal ten-year-old kid - will go out of your sight. To make things worse, your wife will return and start complaining.

Look for a red balloon in the crowd and keep moving towards the exit

Go search for the kid then - deeper into the mall, in the direction where the clown is looking. Look into shops and keep moving towards the stair lift. Now you have to look for the red balloon. This is kind of annoying part since it's rather hard to see it. To make things more frustrating, you have to find it three times. During the first take it turns out to be just a bunch of balloons going up in the air. During the second time - some other kid (coincidentally dressed up exactly like Jason). In the end you will find the real one, so go after him, heading for the mall exit. Then you will end this very linear level.

Completion of this stage grants you the Interactive Drama trophy.
