How to effectively move around the map in Garena Free Fire? Garena Free Fire guide, tips

Last update: 12 November 2019

As in any Battle Royale game, in Garena Free Fire, collecting equipment, combat or avoiding other players are just some of the things you need to learn. Equally important is the ability to move around the map smoothly to increase your chances of obtaining better equipment and getting out alive from any confrontation. In this chapter we discuss the topic of moving around the map.

Map and mini-map

From the map view of the whole island you will get a lot of information - about the safe zone or dangerous places, as the red zone visible in the above picture.

You can monitor the map in the game in two ways - by browsing the map of the whole island, as well as by using the mini-map. You can open the map of the whole area by clicking on the mini-map located in the upper left corner of the screen. This way you will be able to identify where you are currently standing on the island, where are the borders of active zones located and whether red, green or orange zones have appeared on the map. From the map of the island you can plan your next actions - where to go or which place to avoid. With markers (that can be set with a single click to any spot on the map) you can also indicate points of interest - unfortunately, these markers are not visible to the team members in Duo or Squad mode.

Mini-map allows you to monitor what is happening in the vicinity of your position. The "colored" zones will also be marked there, alerting you to an upcoming threat. However, the most important aspect of the mini-map are the markers which indicate enemy players - when they start shooting or are targeted by a UAV drone, their location will be marked with a red triangle. This will allow you to easily locate the nearest threats. However, keep in mind that your actions like shooting and entering the orange zone of the UAV drone, will also reveal your position to other players.

How to smoothly move around the map?

First of all, it's worth exploring and looting buildings with several floors.

When planning the next steps, it is worth keeping a few things in mind, namely:

  1. Look at the mini-map regularly - it provides valuable information about what's going on around your character and will help you avoid many risks.
  2. Use markers. These can be used at the main map of the whole island by a single click at selected spot. Thanks to this you can mark important places like a location full of valuable loot or a vehicle.
  3. You start to move around the map freely after you jump out of a plane. The plane's route is a straight line, so if often avoids areas that are worth visiting. To solve this issue, simply jump out and open the parachute early - so that you can quickly fly through a large part of the map, reaching places where nobody should be there yet.
  4. When moving between points, try to spend as little time as possible in the open space. It is better to run between different terrain obstacles than running for several dozen seconds through a plain field - this will reduce your chances of being spotted by another player and taking potential damage.
  5. When you plan to loot all buildings in the area, remember to check those with several floors in the first place. You will rarely have time to explore all the buildings, and those with several floors can hold more treasures (especially on the roof), than single-storey buildings.
