Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag

The fourth major installment in a bestselling TPP action-adventure game series. The game was developed by Ubisoft Montreal in cooperation with other Ubisoft’s inner studios. The main story in Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag is set in 18th century. You meet a pirate captain Edward Kenway (the grandfather of Connor Kenway from Assassin's Creed III), who gets entangled in the age-long conflict between The Brotherhood of Assassins and the Order of Templars. Interwoven in the story are authentic places and historical events, as well as famous figures (including Edward Teach, Benjamin Hornigold, and Anne Bonny) related to the so called Golden Age of Piracy. The sandbox gameplay model offers the players the complete freedom of exploration and undertaking various missions. Complimentary to the solo mode, the game features an expansive multiplayer with a number of diverse maps and playable characters.

A continuation to a 2009 action RPG. Risen 2: Dark Waters is the work of Piranha Bytes, a German studio that gained substantial popularity through their Gothic series. The game is set 10 years after the events of the first installment. The Nameless Hero is approached by Patty, the daughter of Steelbeard; the girl ask for help in her pursuit of a powerful artifact. Meanwhile, the Inquisition tasks the hero with infiltrating a pirate gang on the island of Puerto Sacarico. As befits a typical action-RPG production, the fun in Risen 2: Dark Waters consists mainly of exploration, questing, and dispatching enemies. Compared with the preceding title, significant changes were introduced in the combat mechanics, and a more attractive audiovisuals were provided.
LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game

Another installment in the popular arcade action games series by the British studio Traveller’s Tales that re-imagines famous pop culture universes as LEGO bricks. This time around, it is the Pirates of the Caribbean movie saga. Plot-wise, LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean: The Video Game covers themes from four movies dealing with the adventures of captain Jack Sparrow, starting with The Curse of the Black Pearl and ending with On Stranger Tides. The well-known events are presented with a light sense of humor that is typical of the series. In the title, around 70 characters with various skills make an appearance, including Jack Sparrow, Will Turner, and Elizabeth Swann. There are also more than 20 levels full of arcade sequences (platformer levels, combat) and simple logic puzzles. Each stage is focused on certain events from the movie original and enriched with cinematic cut-scenes. One of the novelties of this installment is the possibility of visiting one location multiple times in search of additional treasures. LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean can be played either solo or in cooperation mode with another player on a split-screen.
Two Worlds II: Pirates of The Flying Fortress

An expansion for the second installment of the action RPG series by Reality Pump, a Polish development studio. Two Worlds II: Pirates of The Flying Fortress offers a new campaign that takes place in a previously uncharted area. The plot of the add-on is focused on a pirate captain and his crew who are confined on a cursed archipelago. The player helps the corsair save his beloved, find the legendary treasure, and suppress a mutiny on his ship. Of course, the story is non-linear, concluding with one of three endings. Gameplay-wise, the expansion introduces changes in the alchemy system, enables the player to steer a boat, adds new kinds of weapons and enemies, including powerful bosses, such as a Basilisk or a Stone Golem, who require the player to conduct a research on their weaknesses in order to defeat them. Apart from the single player campaign, Pirates of the Flying Fortress offers four new multiplayer maps for the Adventure mode. Moreover, the add-on slightly improves the graphics and introduces new, dynamic weather effects.

A standalone expansion to Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag developed by an in-house Ubisoft studio. Unlike the base game, this time around, the player doesn't assume the role of Edward Kenway, but of his former quartermaster – Adewale, an emancipated black slave who joined the ranks of Assassins. Fifteen years after the events shown in the base game, the main protagonist sets off on a mission to retrieve a package from the hands of the Templars, however, as a result of an accident, his ship crashes near the city of Port-au-Prince, where Adewale encounters his enslaved kin. He does not linger for long and decides to rescue all of them as well as to take his revenge on the white torturers. In Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag – Freedom Cry the gameplay revolves around the formula developed for the sake of Edward Kenway’s adventures – the expansion offers nine elaborate missions constituting a story mini-campaign. Moreover, players can also enjoy new weapons, such as blunderbusses, bombs, and machetes.

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End is an action adventure game that uses themes depicted in the second and third parts of the movie series Pirates of the Caribbean. Developers from Eurocom Entertainment decided to show the story from the perspective of Captain Jack Sparrow, however players also get the opportunity to play as both William Turner and Elizabeth Swann. This installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean game series includes many elements previously depicted in the motion picture series such as the characters themselves, locations they visit on their adventures and iconic scenes that illustrate their fantastic stories. The game focuses on exploration, best accomplished by embarking on various quests and solving simple puzzles. Apart from that, players have to fight numerous foes. During combat, one can use a variety of skills distinctive for each of the playable characters, as well as special attacks and finishing blows. Moreover, nothing stands in player’s way to utilize objects found near the combat area. The licensed motion picture soundtrack accompanies the player all throughout the game.

Raven's Cry is a pirate-themed action game featuring elements of sailing simulation. The initial developer team, Finnish studio Octane Games, was replaced by Reality Pump during development. The game's protagonist, Christopher Raven, is a man obsessed with a burning desire for bloody revenge on the pirates who murdered his parents many years ago. The dark plot of Raven's Cry is greatly influenced by the player’s choices. The production is a combination of a sandbox action game and a sailing simulator. During the game we get the opportunity to engage in dueling, using both pistols and melee weapons, explore the vast world, and even take command of a ship during spectacular naval battles.

The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition is a remake of one of the best adventure games in history, prepared by developers from LucasArts. Players take on the role of pirate Guybrusha Threepwood, who intends to defeat the cruel corsair LeChuk and win the heart of the beautiful governor Elaine Marley. The creators took care of, among others, a new audio-visual setting for the game, as well as a useful hint system.

The first of four large DLCs to the second installment of the post-apocalyptic series of first-person perspective shooters with RPG elements. Similarly as in the case of the basic version of Borderlands 2, the expansion was created by Gearbox Software. The action of Captain Scarlett and her Pirate’s Booty takes place in a previously unknown desert location, where, among the dunes, lies a small settlement called Oasis. Bandits led by Captain Scarlett live and operate in that area. What’s interesting, the members of this group act, look and talk like real pirates. Their story and the legend of the hidden treasure are the main plot of the expansion pack. During the missions available in Captain Scarlett and her Pirate’s Booty the player faces previously unknown enemies and four new bosses: Captain Scarlett, Leviathan, Hyperius the Invincible and Master Gee the Invincible. The desert locations can be explored by using a vehicle similar to a hovercraft. The expansion adds new item type and currency. Each of the five available characters received an optional pirate costume as well.
