Tortuga: A Pirate's Tale

Tortuga: A Pirate's Tale is a turn-based tactical game, in which you play as a pirate fleet commander in the 17th century Caribbean. The game is unrelated to the Tortuga series by Ascaron Software, instead being the work of the German team Gaming Mind Studios.

Plot

Tortuga: A Pirate's Tale takes place in the 17th-18th century Caribbean, during the golden age of piracy. As the captain of a pirate crew, we strive to gain fame and riches, working for four colonial powers representing English, Spanish, Dutch and French interests. In the course of our adventure we'll encounter legendary buccaneers, whose achievements we will try to match.

Mechanics

Just like Gaming Mind's previous games, Tortuga: A Pirate's Tale is turn-based. The players roam the open world of Caribbean islands looking for coin in form of quests, hidden treasures, ships and coastal towns to raid. Battles take place on maps divided into hexagonal tiles, as is tradition to the genre, with weather conditions playing a big role during combat.

Early on it is better not to venture far beyond one's home harbor, as to not encounter the powerful ships owned by local governors. Expanding your own fleet is a necessity. There are 18 unique types of ships to choose from, which can be further personalized by selecting armaments, hull, etc., resulting in a total of 360 combinations. The player character can also be customized to one's preferences, choosing from among 35 skills.

One must also maintain the crew's morale by sharing our loot and correctly setting targets before each raid. If we're too greedy or incompetent, we will end up victims of a mutiny. Equally important is your choice of allies from between legendary targets and colony governors. They can support us on our way to fame - or get us into a lot of trouble.

Game modes

Tortuga: A Pirate's Tale is a singleplayer game only, not offering any multiplayer content.
