SteamWorld Heist II is the seventh game under the SteamWorld banner, and the second part of the SteamWorld Heist subseries, launched in 2015. The game combines tactical strategies and RPGs. It was developed by the Image & Form studio, which is part of the Thunderful Development group.
Plot
The action of SteamWorld Heist II takes place in a steampunk world inspired by the western movies, inhabited by steam robots. The main character of the game is Captain Quincy Leeway, who travels the Great Sea aboard his ship. When the access to life-giving water begins to be threatened by a mysterious evil, which causes the metal limbs and hearts of robots to become rusty, the protagonist decides to face the danger. He is not doomed to a solitary journey, as he can count on the help of other members of his mechanical crew.
Mechanics
In SteamWorld Heist II we travel around the Great Sea on board our ship, which we leave to meet the inhabitants of the game world, accept and perform quests for them, and face opponents (for example, during raids on their bases). During the sailing, we watch the action from a bird's eye view, whereas when we set our mechanical foot on dry land, the events are presented from the side.
Battles with enemy ships take place in real time, and during them we must demonstrate not only tactical sense, but also dexterity. Clashes involving robots take place in turn-based mode. We can gain an advantage over our adversaries by wisely planning our next moves and attacks, making proper use of the equipment of individual robots, as well as utilizing the opportunities offered by the environment. The bullets fired by our subordinates can ricochet off surfaces, so all we need to do is aim properly to get rid of the enemy hidden behind an obstacle without taking an unnecessary risk.
As we progress, we collect not only valuable loot, but also increasingly powerful weapons, gadgets and various upgrades for our crew and their ship. Visits to bars provide us with a moment of respite between subsequent expeditions. It's also where we can sell unnecessary items, acquire more useful equipment, or even meet new allies.
Technical aspects
The graphic design of SteamWorld Heist II is maintained in a cartoon style. The game is accompanied by a soundtrack, which was signed by the group named Steam Powered Giraffe.
