Mechanics

Golden Century is a typical expansion. It does not, therefore, introduce any radical changes to the mechanics of Europa Universalis IV. Instead, the expansion focuses on providing additional content when it comes to overseas colonies and other gameplay elements related to activities on the world's seas and oceans.

Europa Universalis IV: Golden Century allows you to settle overseas colonies with minorities from your own country. This way, you can increase the homogeneity of your own country and thus strengthen the sense of unity within the nation, while at the same time ensuring an increase in ethnic diversity in the nations subordinate to you.

Thanks to this expansion, the nations from the Iberian Peninsula can use the skills of the Jesuit, Franciscan, and Dominican monasteries to calm the rebellious moods in the colonies and facilitate the conversion of societies to Christianity. These countries have also received, together with the North African countries, new missions and objectives that they can carry out and achieve.

Pirate nations have also appeared in the game's world. We can face off against them, or we can manage them ourselves. In addition, the option of appointing a flagship for each fleet has been added, both when it comes to military and trading vessels, which provides useful bonuses during the game. Another feature facilitates taking over coastal fortresses by adding the possibility of destroying their walls through artillery fire from ships.

Technical aspects

Golden Century is not a standalone expansion, so the full version of Europa Universalis IV is required in order to run it.
