The fourth installment in the Elite series. The game is a space simulator created again by David Braben and the Frontier studio. Elite: Dangerous is set in the far future; after humanity had colonized countless star systems, the Universe is dominated by three superpowers: the Empire, the Federation, and the Alliance. Brave pilots seek easy money working beyond the territories controlled by these entities. The open-world game structure offers the players large amounts of freedom when it comes to exploration, trading or completing military assignments. Instead of the classic division into the solo and multiplayer modes, the creators of Elite: Dangerous allow the player to join their friends or return to single-player experience at any time.

This is the debut from the independent developer Squad. The game is an unusual simulator requiring the player to develop their own space program from scratch. Kerbal Space Program combines features of many genres, but the most important part here is an extensive ship editor, which allows the player to design and build their own, unique spacecraft. The ship is then supposed to fly and land safely on a moon of the Kerbin planet. The spaceship is built from various elements - each of them affects it in flight and serves a specific purpose. Thanks to a realistic flight model, the player is capable of observing the effects of their work and monitoring a set of parameters describing the ship. Apart from the basic, sandbox mode, the game offers a set of story missions requiring the player to recruit a team, conduct research, build bases and visit dozens of planets.

In addition, we need to manage the crew and improve our unit. An additional attraction is the fact that every time you start a new game, the world is generated randomly.

A sandbox space simulator developed by Egosoft. It is the fourth full-fledged installment of the popular series X. Similarly to its predecessors, X4: Foundations focuses mostly on giving the players a freedom in how they want to play. At the beginning the player takes control of a cheap space ship with weak specifications. He is being thrown into the middle of an open galaxy. Depending on their choices, they can become a space merchant, a pirate, a soldier, a bounty hunter, an assassin, an explorer or a miner. The gameplay mechanics are more faithful to the first games in the series than to the newest installments. Many simplifications were removed in favor of mechanics known from X3: Terran Conflict, now improved and upgraded with some novelties. The player can pilot many types of ships that can be freely upgraded and modified. The dynamical game world is constantly shaped by player’s actions.

Entropy starts with the usual – the creation of our hero, and choosing the first ship which will allow us to traverse an enormous, open universe, constantly shaped by the actions of the individual players. The game offers impressive freedom in choosing your way, so there is a place for advocates of free exploration, as well as for trade enthusiasts, who, thanks to the knowledge of the basic market rules, can easily grow wealthy by trading goods. One of the most important elements of the game is combat, allowing clashes with up to 100 players at once. To increase their chances in a dogfight, each player has to develop his character, and upgrade his ship, improving its offensive and defensive capabilities.

A continuation of the popular Sunless Sea developed by Failbetter Games. This time around, the action of the game is set not in the depths of an underground ocean but in the mysterious cosmic space known as “The High Wilderness”, which Queen Victoria wanted to use as a foundation for the New British Empire. The main protagonist of this story is an outcast, who objects the rule of the iron fist imposed by the Queen. During the game, a player observes the action from the top-down perspective. Gameplay revolves around exploring new locations, gathering supplies, fighting encountered enemies, and maintaining more or less friendly relationships with diverse groupings inhabiting the vast space. Similarly to the previous installment, in Sunless Skies a player has to mind his decisions, as even a small mistake might lead to the mission’s end and the death of the main protagonist. Player’s actions affect the direction of the story. Additionally, all the visited locations are procedurally generated – this makes each playthrough different and filled with diverse challenges.

It was created by Yager Development, a team known for the FPS Spec Ops: The Line. The game takes you into the future, putting you amid a heated rivalry between powerful factions that aim to colonize space. As a mercenary you pick up various jobs from whoever pays the most. Gameplay focuses on battles fought between the players both in space and in the atmosphere of nearby planets. One of the title’s characteristic features, is the fact that instead of a fast and agile fighter you command a massive space dreadnought and are given the control of every element of your vessel: starting from individual mechanical parts through weapons to her crew. You can also assembly squads of smaller ships and command them in battles. Dreadnought boasts excellent graphics that translate into great visual experience.

Multiplayer-focused space simulator set in a fictional universe created by Crowd Control Productions (CCP Games) for their MMO title, EVE Online. This game is set in the distant future, long after humans living in the New Eden solar system get separated from the rest of the universe because of the collapse of a wormhole leading back to the Milky Way. Isolated from their kinsmen, in time they split up into five opposing factions competing for resources and space for expansion. The game puts you in the cockpit of one of the fighters known from EVE Online and participate in space skirmishes. The gameplay was designed to reward skill of individual players, not the statistics of their characters. What is more, EVE: Valkyrie supports virtual reality headsets for an even more immersive experience.

A spin-off of the popular space MMORPG – EVE Online, created by the same studio: CCP Games. EVE: Gunjack is a title developed with virtual reality sets in mind. The game sees us man a powerful cannon, defending an oil platform against the enemies trying to destroy it. When it comes to mechanics, the game is a classic rail shooter – we are unable to control the movements of our character, the player can only look around. Therefore, our role is reduced to firing at numerous enemies and gathering various pick-ups that increase the stopping power of our weapons, durability of the cover, and give us access to new weapons. Eliminating enemies nets us points, while linking the kills into spectacular combinations results in increasing the current point multiplier. The only game mode available is the single player campaign, divided into missions. Our scores can be placed in the internet ranking. Unreal Engine 4 is responsible for generating visuals in EVE: Gunjack, with their quality similar to EVE: Valkyrie.
