Steam
A competitive free-to-play multiplayer game that combines the characteristics of a space simulation, action game, and strategy. It was created by Yager Development, a team known for the FPS Spec Ops: The Line. The game takes you into the future, putting you amid a heated rivalry between powerful factions that aim to colonize space. As a mercenary you pick up various jobs from whoever pays the most.
Dreadnought is an online space simulator, in which the players take command of mighty space vessels and fight massive battles against each other. Unlike many games of this type, here you do not fly around in an agile starfighter, but a giant dreadnought-class starship, which obviously requires very different combat tactics. This PC and PS4 game was developed by Yager Development.
Story
You play as the captain of a might vessel that answers to no political power in the universe. Your times are the the times of mercenaries and armies for hire, where it's the reputation, gained either by strength or cunning, that counts rather than military decorations or official titles. As a commander of a dreadnought you try to climb to the top of this informal hierarchy, which, however, won't be easy, as there will other ambitious commanders standing in your way.
Gameplay
There are several ship classes to choose from, allowing you to find the vessel that fits you most. Although all of them offer different capabilities, durability, fire power, and appearances, the one trait they share is poor maneuverability. An interesting feature is that, when killed, your captain is not out for the rest of the current round – at any moment you can go back to action piloting a small fighter, which, although it cannot match a dreadnoughts’ firepower, can still turn the tides in your team’s favor with its agility.
Game modes
Because of its online character, Dreadnought emphasizes cooperation in almost every game mode it offers. Regardless of whether you take part in a skirmish in Team Elimination or a in classic Team Deathmatch, you have to properly plan and carefully execute your strategies. Strategic thinking is also favored by the relatively slow gameplay pace, due to the sizes of the ships under player's command. This is true not only for online modes but also for the short single player campaign, which serves as introductions.
Technology
PC and PS4 version of Dreadnought offers impressive visuals. Its assets are not only the impressive ships, but also excellent environment models. The animations and shooting effects leave nothing to be desired, and neither do the various sounds accompanying combat operations.
