The player can have up to 12 fighters under their command, and each of them has a portrait, name and a backstory, apart from a set of features that affect their stats and capabilities on the battlefield.

The player takes command of one side of the American Civil War and tries to tip the scales of victory to his advantage. Battle Islands: Commanders was created by the experienced DR Studios, and the game extends the formula of 2013's Battle Islands. The game simplifies the traditional RTS mechanics, but supplementing them with elements borrowed from card games and tower defense titles. Each duel is fought using the cards one has in their deck, which can be modified to one's liking.
