Heroes of Might and Magic V Description
Heroes of Might & Magic V is the fifth edition of the cult turn-based strategy game series. This one was developed by Nival Interactive, creators of such titles as Blitzkrieg, Silent Storm, or Etherlords.
The fifth installment of HoM&M series invites players to a more mature world (many fairy-tale elements present in the previous games did not make their way to this one). This time the fantasy realm becomes a target of constant attacks of demons, wreaking havoc wherever they get. The demons also slay the new king Nicolai. Craving for vengeance, his wife Isabel makes an unfortunate alliance with the Undead. From now, the fate of the world lies on the shoulders of brave heroes, who have to stand up for their homelands and proudly lead their armies to victory over overwhelming (initially) forces of evil. Obviously, the player has to stop the attacking hordes, making history of this fantasy universe.
The gameplay went through no revolutionary changes, although more focus was put on strategy instead of RPG elements. Throughout 6 single player campaigns (over 30 diverse missions) players get to explore and capture new territories, expand their cities, recruit army, and unlock new skills for their heroes.
There are up to 40 creatures and spells (including HoM&M fans favorites – dragons). Some of the beasts you fight with, or have among your own ranks, posses unique spells useful in combat (e.g. Angels can heal the wounded). The number of cities (which are more lively than before) is limited to six, including the ones belonging to Humans, Demons, and Undead. The game also features Elves and Orcs.
Traditionally, turn-based battles are fought on hexagonal battlefields. Heroes now do not take active part in fights – their role is limited mainly to spell casting to support their units or give them special perks. Combat is now time limited. A small role is also played by diplomacy, letting you make alliances with other races for a given mission.
For the first time in Heroes of Might & Magic series, 3D environment was introduced with lots of new objects, animations, unit models, and buildings. The game also features addictive multiplayer with five play modes (online, local network, or hot-seat), as well as a complex level editor.
