Metro Video Game Series
Inspired by Dmitry Glukhovsky's series of post-apocalyptic novels, this is a series of first-person shooters (FPS). The brand was created by Ukrainian studio 4A Games, and the rights are currently held by Deep Silver.
Work on the first game in the series - Metro 2033 - started in 2006, right after the formation of the 4A Games studio by former employees of GSC Game World (series S.T.A.L.K.E.R.). After four years, the production, in versions for PC and Xbox 360, hit store shelves. The title received a very warm reception not only from fans of Dmitry Glukhovsky's prose. Its success encouraged the developers to create a sequel, but the bankruptcy of the THQ corporation, announced in 2012, put the project in question. Eventually, the rights to the brand, along with the almost finished game Metro: Last Light were bought out by Deep Silver/Koch Media for $5.8 million, and the sequel was released in May 2013. In August 2014, refreshed and improved editions of the games were released on the market Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light with the subtitles Redux; also released Metro Redux, which combines the two aforementioned games in one box. The whole thing was prepared for PC and eighth-generation consoles, and more than five years later lived to see a conversion for the Nintendo Switch console. In February 2019, meanwhile, the third full-fledged installment of the series debuted, namely. Metro Exodus. Like the previous installments, it came to personal computers and consoles (PlayStation 4 and Xbox One).
The plot of the series Metro is set in a post-apocalyptic universe depicting a vision of the future world twenty years after the outbreak of nuclear war. The story begins in the subway tunnels of destroyed Moscow, where some residents managed to find refuge. Decimated by mutant attacks and divided into hostile factions, people try to survive. The main character is Artiom, who tries to break through to the legendary Polis station to warn the residents there of the danger. Interestingly, while Metro 2033 is a fairly faithful adaptation of the novel of the same title, the sequel, Metro: Last Light, is not plot-related to any book from the universe of the Metro. In this part, we also take control of Artiom, who is given the task of playing the role of bait in the assassination of Shadow. The operation ends in failure, as a result of which the protagonist sets out in pursuit of the fugitive. Metro Exodus on the other hand, is a direct sequel to the book Metro 2035. In the book, Artiom and a group of survivors leave the Moscow metro and head east to find a new home. Interestingly, although in games under this banner it is in vain to look for any indicator of the protagonist's morality, the decisions we make lead to different endings.
The gameplay in the productions of the series Metro combines elements of action games, stealth and survival horror shooters (in addition to humans, terrifying mutated creatures stand in our way). We observe the events here from a first-person perspective (FPP), and a number of more or less contemporary types of weaponry are put at our disposal. While in the first two parts the action took place mainly in the subway tunnels and on the streets of destroyed Moscow, in the third installment of the series we had the opportunity to see the extent of the destruction caused by the nuclear war in other regions of Russia (such as the Volga and the dried-up Caspian Sea). The locations in it were definitely larger than before, while the gameplay - less ropey. In Metro 2035 the developers also implemented a day and night cycle and dynamically changing weather. Another novelty was a train acting as a "mobile settlement", in which we moved between locations and talked to team members.
A major asset of the brand Metro is the high-quality visuals, using the capabilities of the proprietary 4A Engine (created by Oleksandr Shishkovtsov and Oleksandr Maximchuk, programmers who previously worked on the X-Ray Engine for the series of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.).
Although the brands Metro can't be considered an unexpected, big-money success, over time the series has gathered around it a host of loyal fans, especially in Europe.

Metro Exodus is the third installment of the popular FPS series based on the books by Dmitry Glukhovsky and developed by 4A Games. Once again we play as Artyom who ventures through what remains of Russia after a nuclear war that took place twenty years before the action of the game. Metro Exodus is kind of an evolution of what we saw in the series' previous installments. As usual, we explore the game's rich world (this time, along with the tunnels, also the world’s surface), fight with the encountered enemies, and try to be as stealthy as possible. Stealth plays an important role in the game because we will encounter not only well-armed human survivors, but also mutants. Defeating a smaller one may not be that hard, but the more powerful mutants can be rather difficult to kill. As usual, the latest installment of the Metro series features visuals of the highest quality.
