New Metro Game Still in Development; War Will Leave its Mark
Ukrainian studio 4A Games reminds that its next Metro game is still in the pipeline. The developers explain how the ongoing war is affecting the work.
The fact that another Metro game will be developed was revealed shortly after the premiere of the latest installment - Exodus. The still ongoing Russian-Ukrainian war had to affected the production, and studio 4A Games has just decided to say more about it. For fans, the most important thing will be the fact that new Metro is still being developed, despite the difficulties.
The latest post on the developers' website describes this difficult situation faced by one of the 4A Games teams, which is in Ukraine, or more precisely in Kiev. The war will leave its mark on the new Metro, but it is expected to change the series for the better. The developers stressed that titles in the series have always carried political and anti-war messages, and the ongoing war has forced them to rethink the story to be told by the new Metro.
"All the themes of Metro - conflict, power, politics, tyranny, repression - are now part of our daily lives. So we use them and weave them into the game with a new purpose. This is the most important thing for us at the moment."
The team working on Metro in Kiev often has to interrupt work to face reality - rocket fire, power outages, etc. Therefore, 4A Games wants - and it's almost inevitable - the realities of war to be reflected in the game's post-apocalyptic world.
The developers did not provide more new information on the next Metro, but from a previous post we know that they are taking the series seriously and listening to fan feedback. The new game is expected to offer an "amazing" single-player story, but is is also possible that it will include multiplayer elements. It is being developed for current-gen consoles and PCs.
