Another major entry in the famous hack-and-slash action game series that is one of the most important franchises available exclusively on subsequent generations of the PlayStation consoles. In previous parts of the series, we have been following a story of Spartan warrior named Kratos, and the gameplay concentrated mainly on spectacular and incredibly bloody action and eye-catching fighting system.

GameSpot: 9 / 10 by Phil Hornshaw
God of War isn't drastically different on PC when compared to the PS4 version that launched back in 2018, but its little improvements are definitely nice ones, making this a solid PC port overall. There isn't reason enough here to buy a second copy of the game if you've already played, necessarily, but the PC version is a great reason to check out God of War for the first time for anybody who hasn't had a chance to experience it. God of War remains an excellent, gorgeous, affecting action game, and with the port to PC, it gets a handful of nice, if somewhat minor, improvements.

Despite eye-catching changes, the heart of this series remains gloriously unaltered.
GamesBeat: 90 / 100 by Mike Minotti
This new God of War takes a lot of risks. It trades blind rage and revenge for a story about a troubled father/son relationship. It ditches fast, combo-based violence for something more methodical. It's a departure from everything that once was God of War. But almost all of these risks pay off. God of War is an exhilarating, beautiful action game that turns one of PlayStation's biggest icons into a character you can care about.
The main pros of the game
- Storytelling: The game features an emotionally rich narrative that explores themes of redemption, loss, and the complexities of parenthood, particularly the relationship between Kratos and his son, Atreus.
- Visuals and Art Direction: The graphics are stunning, with detailed environments that create an immersive world. Players appreciate the atmospheric design and the breathtaking landscapes.
- Combat System: The combat is described as intense, strategic, and satisfying, with the Leviathan Axe being a standout weapon. The game allows for various combat styles and has engaging enemy encounters.
- Voice Acting and Sound Design: The voice acting and orchestral score are highly praised, contributing significantly to the game's cinematic feel.
- Exploration and Puzzles: The game encourages exploration, rewarding players with lore and upgrades. Puzzles are well-integrated into the gameplay, breaking up the action effectively.
The main cons of the game
- Repetitive Gameplay: Some players feel that the combat and gameplay can become repetitive over time, particularly with enemy types and boss fights.
- Camera Angles: The fixed camera can be frustrating during combat, as it limits visibility and can lead to disorientation.
- Performance Issues: Some reviews mention technical issues, such as HDR problems, lag, or crashes, particularly on lower-end systems.
- Length of Story: A few players feel that the main story is relatively short compared to the amount of side content, which could leave some feeling unsatisfied.
The features or elements that are missing from the game according to users
- Character Customization: Some players expressed a desire for more customization options for Kratos and Atreus.
- More Diverse Combat Mechanics: While the combat is generally praised, some players miss the more diverse and chaotic combat style of the earlier games in the series.
- Enhanced RPG Elements: A few users noted that the game could benefit from deeper RPG mechanics, such as more extensive skill trees or character progression systems.
- More Variety in Side Quests: Some reviews mentioned that while side quests are enjoyable, they can feel like chores and lack variety.
Summary
- Overall, "God of War" is celebrated as a modern classic that successfully revitalizes the franchise with a strong narrative, stunning visuals, and engaging gameplay, despite some criticisms regarding repetitiveness and technical performance.

God of War Description
God of War is the fifth full-fledged entry in the legendary series of slasher games. It is the first installment developed exclusively for the eighth generation console. The title was developed by the creators of the previous games in the series, Santa Monica Studios – the first-party studio of Sony Interactive Entertainment. The God of War series is focused on spectacular, blood-filled action and impressive system of battles against powerful bosses. The protagonist, a Greek warrior named Kratos, quickly became a gaming icon.
Plot
Kratos is once again the main protagonist of God of War. After wraith and madness-filled adventures in Greece that ended with the destruction of Olymp and death of many of Greece gods and heroes, the protagonist escapes to the far North where he looks for peace. There he finds a new love and starts a family. When his wife suddenly dies, he remains alone with a young son named Atreus.
Sadly, the two can’t live in peace. The Nordic gods are fully aware of Kratos’ role in the fall of Olympus and they fear him. The protagonists are forced to start a journey filled with bodies of demonic and fantasy beasts. During the journey, Kratos must face the consequences of his actions and the anger that is still buried in his heart. What makes things more complicated is the fact that Atreus gradually discovers his father’s past and his loyalty towards him diminishes.
Mechanics
God of War introduces previously unseen gameplay mechanics and it slightly changes them and the speed of the game. This can be seen in the change of the camera’s position – now it is constantly following the back of the protagonist like in modern action-adventure games. The style of the narration’ and tone of the story has been changed as well. Kratos abandons his favorite weapon – double blades with chains – and instead, he uses an axe that returns to him whenever he throws it. The weapon can be upgraded with magic runes. They enable the player to increase damage from elements like ice or fire to which some enemies are vulnerable.
During the adventure, the players travel through vast levels that hide many secrets, corridors and optional encounters with enemies. The game once again features spectacular battles with bosses – a characteristic trait of the whole series. Instead of multi-phase battles based on quick time events (where the player must press buttons displayed on the screen), now the players have full control over Kratos’ movement. Above the head of the boss, there are two bars – one of them informs the players about his health bar and the other represents how stunned he is.
Atreus helps in combat as well. The players can give him orders with a separate button. He can, for example, help the protagonist by shooting arrows. Similarly to his father, the boy gains experience, new skills and attacks.
Technical aspects
The developers of God of War took advantage of the power of the console in order to provide spectacular action and the level of graphics that was inaccessible for the previous entries in the series. The game features additional visual gimmicks and graphics options for owners of PlayStation 4 Pro. Once again the players can experience inventive ideas and impressive cutscenes and multi-leveled boss battles. The soundtrack was composed by Bear McCreary, an American composer who created music for awarded TV series like Battlestar Galactica, Eureka, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, The Walking Dead and Outlander.

God of War Series
God of War is a series of action adventure games with a third-person perspective (TPP) view. The authors of the series strongly allude to the convention of so-called slashers (hack'n'slash) - the essence of gameplay here is the brutal elimination of hordes of enemies and fighting giant bosses. Bloody carnage is interspersed with simple logic puzzles and simple platforming elements. The series also offers the possibility to develop the protagonist and improve his arsenal.
