The game is based on the classic principle of 'collecting things and shooting at other things', where the plot plays a secondary role. X3 Reunion is the third fully-fledged version of the Space Simulator series, launched in 1999 by X-Beyond the Frontier. The plot continues the threads presented in X2 The Threat. The player takes on the role of Captain Jules Brennan, who gets entangled in a conflict with the Kha'ak race and no less dangerous Xenons. As in the previous games from the series, the creators of the series bet on great freedom in exploring the X universe.

The player assumes the role of the squad leader, who coordinates the actions of his subordinates.

An official expansion for Painkiller, an FPS created by the Polish studio People Can Fly. Daniel Garner managed to defeat Lucifer but his throne was immediately taken by Alastor. The hero must pick up his weapons once again and face hordes from hell so he can finally defeat its new demonic ruler. The developers created ten new, complex maps for this expansion and each one of them has its unique style – during the game we visit, e.g. a demonic version of Stalingrad.
