Checkpoint Gaming: 8 / 10 by Luke Mitchell
Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred is a smart expansion that offers more than enough tantalising new content to bring back previous players while keeping existing fans happy. The new Spiritborn class is fun, versatile and customisable, while other additions like mercenaries, reduced level cap and new ways to tweak your build all make a lot of sense. While the story might not set the hellish world on fire, it has some memorable new environments that make playing through it still feel interesting, even if it's clearly setting up for something bigger. With new captivating endgame content, Vessel of Hatred makes diving back into the world of demons as enticing as ever.
GamingTrend: 90 / 100 by Ron Burke
A fantastic expansion with a very compelling set of features, including a new class, a far-better approach to bosses, and a few borrowed elements from their other MMO works. It's a big step in the right direction, and I can't wait to see what's next.
Screen Rant: 7 / 10 by Carrie Lambertsen
Ultimately, however, Vessel of Hatred adds so much to the quality of the game. The story is deep and engaging, and offers many satisfying twists and emotional growth of characters; the Spiritborn class is my new favorite. I am eager to try out other combinations of skills with the Spiritborn and see what else Diablo 4 has to offer in the future.
Diablo IV: Vessel of Hatred Description
Vessel of Hatred is the first story expansion for the action RPG Diablo IV, released in 2023. It was created by the American studio Blizzard Entertainment, just like the "base game".
Plot
The story in Vessel of Hatred begins shortly after the events of the finale of Diablo IV. It focuses on the character of Mephisto, the Lord of Hatred, who together with Diablo and Baal forms the Unholy Trinity.
The expansion takes us to a new region – Nahantu. It is located near the city of Kurast, where we fought Mephisto in Diablo II. This is an area covered with dense jungles, featuring numerous waterfalls and unique buildings, evoking associations with Aztec architecture (like terraced pyramids serving as temples).
Spiritborn and other news
The Vessel of Hatred expansion offers new ways of playing the game, which are primarily provided by the previously unavailable character class - Spiritborn. He is a kind of shaman who can harness the power of four jungle beasts in the form of a jaguar, gorilla, eagle, and centipede. We can complete the entire game when playing as a Spiritborn character.
Except for the new class, Vessel of Hatred add-on does not deviate too much from what base Diablo IV offers. The game mainly involves performing main and side quests, during which we face hordes of monsters. As a reward, we receive experience points, an appropriate number of which translates into experience levels, providing increasingly powerful skills.
Game Pass
The Vessel of Hatred add-on is not included in the PC/Xbox Game Pass subscription service. Subscribers can buy it at a discount and enjoy its content, even if they do not own the "base game", which is included in the subscription.
Technical aspects
Vessel of Hatred is a non-standalone expansion, which means that in order to run it we must have the base version of Diablo IV.
