The third full-fledged season of the popular series of episodic adventure games developed by Telltale Games based on the cult comics and TV series, The Walking Dead. The mechanics of the game are similar as in previous installments of the series and they concentrate on exploration and conversations with non-playable characters. In difference to classic adventure games, The Walking Dead: Season Three lacks typical puzzles and the focus is on making various moral choices which are the main factor that shapes the story of the game. A new feature in the game is a special system that allows moving saved games between various platforms. It is possible to import saves from Season Two and continue the plots started there with all consequences of the choices previously made.

Another episodic adventure game developed by the experienced American studio Telltale Games, who had produced many highly acclaimed video games based on famous films, books, and comic books, such as Back to the Future, The Walking Dead, and Game of Thrones. Batman: A Telltale Game Series takes you into the grim city of Gotham, however, unlike Rocksteady’s popular action game series, Telltale Games’ production focuses on Bruce Wayne himself, showing his moral dilemmas and the burden imposed on him by the constant fight against corruption and crime. In terms of gameplay the title does not stray far from the studio’s previous productions. As always, the key element of gameplay is making tough choices that influence the way the story unfolds – and not just within one chapter but across the entire season.

Adventure

February 25, 2016

A three-part episodic adventure game by Telltale Games that came out as an expansion to The Walking Dead: Season Two. The game takes us back to the world where human population was decimated by a zombie virus. As the title suggests, it focuses on one of the most recognizable characters from the original graphic novel – Michonne, the series' relentless, sword-wielding heroine. Since the original story revealed only shreds of her past, the game tries to fill in the gap by depicting the events that caused Michonne to leave Rick, Ezekiel and the rest of the group, and why she came back. Gameplay mechanics is the same as in the previous installments in The Walking Dead series, therefore, you mainly explore, talk to other characters, and make tough choices that determine how the story unfolds. The game does not include logic puzzles, which usually are the landmark of the genre, instead featuring simple action sequences.

A sequel to the 2013 arcade fighting game Injustice: Gods Among Us by NetherRealm Studios, known for the latest Mortal Kombat games. The game features minimal plot, in which Batman and his supporters try to rebuild the society, but at the same time have to fight against Superman and his allies. Among the chaos, a new danger appears, threatening to wipe out all of humanity. Mechanics-wise, Injustice 2 is a spectacular Mortal Kombat-like 2.5D fighting game, although it's not as violent. You can play as either a hero or a villain; available characters include Superman, the Flash, Batman, Supergirl, Aquaman, Atrocitus and Gorilla Grodd. The sequel also allows for modifying your chosen character. During the gameplay, you earn new equipment, which can alter not only your character's appearance, but also their abilities.

Strategy

September 14, 2016

A mobile strategy game based on the comic book series by René Goscinny, developed by Sproing Interactive Media and Bandai Namco. In Asterix and Friends your task is to build a prosperous Gaul village, which would be able to resist the attacks of the Roman legions. In terms of mechanics, it is a real-time strategy game, stylistically similar to the popular Clash of Clans. You have to manage the development of your village, gather resources, conduct research on new technologies, and train your military. Another aspect is combat, in which you attack enemy outposts, and since your control over your army is limited, you have to carefully choose your units and manage their equipment, such as weapons, armor, and potions. The game features a neat story campaign, in which you encounter many familiar characters and plow through Roman camps to eventually reach Egypt.

Puzzle

August 16, 2017

A prequel to the first Framed, an indie puccle game developed by Australian studio Loveshack Entertainment. The game once again relies on the setting of hardboiled novels, only this time set in Asia, where the protagonist has been framed for a crime he did not commit. He has no choice, but to clear his name before he gets caught by real criminals or the police. Framed 2 employs comics panel-based narrative, constructed in a way that will allow the protagonist to get out of trouble. Finding the correct solution might often be a true challenge – before we get it, we will see a few other versions of the story, each ending tragically for our hero. All of this is presented with interesting, comic book-like visuals inspired by the noir convention.
