The player becomes a captain of a group of robo-pirates who are trying to survive in this post-apocalyptic reality by raiding and plundering enemy bases and ships.

The story begins with a hunt organized in honor of the world’s ruler, during which an assassin makes an attempt on his life.

Then the game fasts-forward to 2100, and the action now takes place in Tokyo.

During the game, the titular Mario brothers have to join forces with their arch-enemy – Bowser, and together they set out to the Beanbean Kingdom to retrieve Princess Peach’s stolen voice. The 3DS release of the game’s remake features improved visuals with more polished character models and lighting effects that are much more pleasing to the eye.
