Nemesis is not afraid of fire. Nor lead. And acid. In general, nothing scares him.

Capcom continues the process of remastering its flagship Resident Evil series. After the hugely successful remake of last year's Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3 appears made in the similar vein. It's not exactly the same, because the third part in the original was something of a complement to the story from the second installment of the series – and in that respect, nothing has changed. However, the game is much shorter and more linear.

Its performance, on the other hand, should be exemplary for all remakes. No pixel reveals that the original appeared back in the 1990s. RE3 looks sensational - just what a game released in 2020 should look like. The developers also improved and expanded the fighting mechanics and... they said they would not stop there. Changes were also made to the story, the authors added new missions, new side characters, and locations. It's basically not a remake, but a contemporary and better version of a 20-year-old game.

In Japan, remake is followed by remake. After an improved version of Persona and Resident Evil created-from-scratch remakes, a new edition of Final Fantasy VII appeared, one of the most popular JRPGs in game history, released for the first PlayStation in 1997. With such a difference in technology, of course, simple raising the resolution of textures wouldn't have cut it. Final Fantasy VII Remake is, like Capcom's last two Resident Evil remakes, a game based on original ideas but created entirely from scratch.

In addition to the great audiovisual setting, the story has been changed a bit, receiving new plotlines. The fighting system and character development were also reworked. It isn't all perfect. Veterans of the original must also accept the fact that FF VII Remake is only part of the story told in the original, the scale of which was too great to be financed in a single game today. For the series' biggest fans, it's kind of a test of how much they're willing to accept, lest they spoil their nostalgic memories. For the rest of us, it might be a good opportunity to start our adventure with this genre.

Final Fantasy VII Remake is definitely more than a game calculated to prey on nostalgia. In fact, it's probably Square Enix' bravest game in many years. You don't want to miss this adventure.
