In the case of Medal of Honor: Frontline, the authors didn't show much creativity in creating the initial stage, but I don't think anyone holds that against them. After all, this gave us the opportunity to dive right into the middle of the famous Omaha Beach landing scene, straight from the movie Saving Private Ryan. The opening minutes of Spielberg's masterpiece have gone down in cinematic history – so it's no surprise that they inspired video games. Although somne players consider this stage to be more part of the graphically enhanced PC version, Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, the Omaha landing began the console Frontline – just like in the movie.
DreamWorks Interactive was still owned by Steven Spielberg at the time, so using a ready-made recipe for an intense scene seemed understandable. In less than ten minutes, we experience a whole gamut of emotions. First, there's the calm before the storm, passive anticipation during the short trip in Higgins' boat. Then, all of a sudden, all hell breaks loose – gunshots and explosions everywhere, medics tending the wounded, and the player trying desperately to find some cover. Only after some time we take the initiative and the usual FPP shooting begins. I don't think any subsequent war video game has done the Normandy invasion as much justice as Medal of Honor.
