2. Death Stranding. The best games of 2019 according to Gamepressure

Table of Contents

Release date: November 2019

Genre: Emm… action game?

Available on: PS4

Death Stranding is the most innovative high-budget game we've got in this generation. Hideo Kojima promised a title we've never seen before and he kept his word. Contemptuously described before the launch as "Amazon courier simulator", Death Stranding basically turned out to be exactly that. Only that it completely rebuilt one of the most trivial video game activities, giving it unprecedented depth and freshness. It made running with cargo from point A to point B more interesting than shooting or slaughtering hordes of monsters with a sword.

And this is just one aspect of Death Stranding's uniqueness. The second is the leitmotif of the whole game, i.e. breaking out of aversion to others and building a community. This theme is directly reflected in the gameplay, in which, as more sectors of America are connected to the network in the game world, other players' structures, which are of great help, appear in the game. Kojima teaches us, in an exceptionally non-invasive way, about the value of cooperation and the fact that alone we will never achieve as much as with others.

All this is bound together by an extraordinary world, so very different from everything we have seen in other games. Full of mysteries to solve that hide incredible character stories, beautiful, spectacular landscape and unspeakable horrors. Many people repeat the phrase that Death Stranding is not for everyone, as if afraid to openly admire the uniqueness of this title and recommend it to others. But you know what? The Witcher 3 is not for everyone either. There's always someone who doesn't like something. So maybe we shouldn't be so afraid of the new and appreciate the genius of the bravest AAA game of recent years.
